Riesling might not be the first thing you think of with Coonawarra, but the climate and soil are actually perfect for developing intensity, crispness and ageability in the variety. This is a new producer for us here at the 'Fo, one that hangs its hat on riesling as much as cabernet. Rare for Coonawarra, we know. But when you have a single block of riesling on sandy loam that performs as well as this one does, you've gotta dive in. They only make this wine in exceptional vintages so you won't get your hands on it every year. But we were lucky enough to get our hands on this aged example with seven years of maturity. Lemons, limes and a touch of orange blossom are all carried by bracing minerality and a hint of residual sugar (just a hint, we promise). Open one now to experience the zest but save a bottle or two for down the road to see how it develops even further.
