Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Complex layers of lemon pith, white nectarine, roasted cashew, citrus blossom and just a flicker of spice. The palate is textured, taut and savoury, with a line of minerality that cuts like a hot knife through (lemon) butter. There’s plenty of fruit, nectarine, grapefruit and pear skin, but it’s all balanced by subtly chalky minerality and mouthwatering acidity. New French oak adds a toasty, vanillan aspect, wrapping things up in structure rather than sweetness. That little hint of grapefruit pith on the finish... unbelievable.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Yering Station Estate Chardonnay showcases the cooler climate elegance of the Yarra Valley, balancing rich fruit with mineral precision rather than the tropical, butter-heavy style often associated with warmer Australian regions. The use of new French oak adds structure and complexity without overwhelming the wine's natural acidity and stone fruit character. The result is a more European-influenced style that demonstrates how Australian Chardonnay can achieve both power and finesse.

Serve this medium-bodied Chardonnay slightly chilled at 10-12°C to highlight its mineral backbone and textural complexity. The wine's savoury, oaky profile and mouthwatering acidity make it perfect for rich seafood dishes like lobster thermidor, roasted chicken with herbs, or creamy mushroom risotto. The toasty oak and citrus elements also complement aged hard cheeses and dishes with subtle spice components.

Receiving dual 95-point scores from respected critics Philip Rich and Shanteh Wale, plus gold at the prestigious James Halliday Australian Chardonnay Challenge, positions this wine in the top tier of Australian Chardonnays. These ratings indicate exceptional balance, complexity, and ageing potential - qualities that justify the wine's premium positioning. Such consistent high scores across different judging panels suggest this vintage represents outstanding value for a wine of this calibre.

This structured Chardonnay has excellent cellaring potential thanks to its mineral backbone, quality French oak integration, and natural acidity. While delicious now, the wine should develop greater complexity over 3-5 years as the oak softens and the fruit flavours evolve from bright citrus to more honeyed, nutty characteristics. The Yarra Valley's cool climate and Yering Station's winemaking expertise ensure this wine will reward patient collectors.

Yering Station holds the distinction of being one of the Yarra Valley's founding wineries, established in 1838, making it instrumental in proving the region's potential for premium cool-climate wines. Their estate vineyards benefit from ideal north-facing slopes and the valley's unique terroir, while decades of winemaking experience allow them to consistently craft wines that express both varietal character and regional identity. This heritage and expertise explain why they've earned 'Iconic Producer' status in Australian wine circles.
