Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

The palate is quite soft and supple; apricot cream and lemon pith. There's a little bit of rocky minerality on offer, too. This is classic, generous pinot gris that remains true to style. An extremely versatile wine – it'll be just as comfortable next to a seafood feast as it will with a mid-week pizza on the couch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pinot Gris sits beautifully between the crisp acidity of Sauvignon Blanc and the richness of Chardonnay, offering a medium-bodied profile that's both approachable and sophisticated. This Windowrie example showcases the variety's signature soft, supple texture with apricot cream notes, while the rocky minerality adds complexity that reflects the Central Ranges terroir. The combination of fruit generosity and mineral backbone makes it more food-friendly than many lighter whites.

Windowrie's playful 'Pig in the House' name suggests this is their approachable, everyday drinking style rather than a premium reserve bottling. This naming philosophy often indicates a wine designed for casual enjoyment and broad appeal, which aligns perfectly with the wine's versatile food-pairing potential. The unpretentious branding reflects the wine's generous, crowd-pleasing character that works equally well for relaxed dinners or more formal occasions.

Serve this Pinot Gris well-chilled at 8-10°C to highlight its fresh apricot and lemon pith characteristics while maintaining the wine's medium body. The cooler temperature will also emphasise the rocky minerality and keep the soft, supple palate refreshing. Consider decanting briefly if serving immediately from the fridge, as allowing it to warm slightly in the glass will reveal more of the apricot cream complexity.

The wine's medium body and mineral backbone make it exceptional with seafood - think grilled fish, prawns, or creamy pasta with scallops where the apricot notes complement sweet shellfish flavours. Its versatility shines with Asian cuisine, particularly Thai or Vietnamese dishes where the wine's soft texture balances spice while the minerality cuts through rich coconut-based sauces. Even casual fare like wood-fired pizza works beautifully, as the wine's generous fruit character won't be overwhelmed by stronger flavours.

This Pinot Gris is at its peak drinking window now, designed to showcase fresh fruit flavours and vibrant acidity that define the variety's appeal. While the wine's medium body and mineral structure could develop for another 1-2 years, Pinot Gris generally doesn't benefit from extended cellaring like more structured whites. The apricot and lemon characteristics are most expressive in their youth, so enjoy this wine over the next 18 months for optimal freshness and varietal character.
