There's nothing quite like a bestselling, single-vineyard, Yarra Valley chardonnay to get you through the cooler months. There's a catch, though (there's always a catch) - stocks are seriously limited.

Why do we love this wine?

A brilliant wine. Chardonnay that feels premium in every way. The weight. The length. The way it changes and evolves as it breathes a little. The sheer amount of complexity in every glass. We're decidedly in cooler fruits here; green apples, pears, green grapes, some grapefruit, plentiful citrus. That fruit is stretched across some tightly wound, nervy acidity that snakes it's way up the palate to eventually define the long, fantastic finish. This is a wine that will have you coming back for more and, on that front, I'm sorry to say we'll have to disappoint you, Mofo: this will sell out quick.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Warramunda Estate Chardonnay showcases a cooler climate expression that's distinctly different from the rich, buttery Australian Chardonnays many people know. The Yarra Valley's cool conditions allow for extended ripening, creating intense green apple and citrus flavors with nervy acidity rather than tropical fruit notes. This style represents the modern Australian approach to Chardonnay, emphasizing elegance and complexity over power.

Serve this Chardonnay slightly chilled at 10-12°C and give it time to breathe - the description mentions it evolves beautifully as it opens up. The full-bodied nature and complex flavor profile make it perfect for pairing with rich seafood dishes, roasted chicken, or creamy pasta. Consider decanting it 15-20 minutes before serving to allow those layers of complexity to fully express themselves.

A 95-point rating from Wine Orbit places this Chardonnay in exceptional territory - typically reserved for wines that show outstanding complexity, balance, and aging potential. Combined with Warramunda Estate's Five Star Halliday rating, this indicates consistent quality across their range. Such high scores for a 2024 vintage suggest this wine was crafted from exceptional fruit and represents outstanding value at its current price point.

Nervy acidity refers to the wine's vibrant, electric-like acidity that creates a spine of freshness running through the palate. This characteristic is prized in cool-climate Chardonnays as it provides structure and ensures the wine doesn't feel heavy despite being full-bodied. The acidity acts like a conductor's baton, orchestrating all the flavors and extending the finish, making each sip feel alive and dynamic rather than flat or flabby.

While this Chardonnay is absolutely delicious now - showing all that complexity and evolution mentioned in the tasting notes - its structure suggests it has excellent aging potential. The tight acidity and full body indicate it could develop beautifully over 3-5 years, gaining more honeyed notes and textural richness. However, given the warning that it will sell out quickly, you might want to buy multiple bottles to enjoy both now and later.
