Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

On the nose it’s all nutty goodness and struck match energy - buttered popcorn, peanut brittle, lemon butter, white choc, even a little macadamia richness. Then the palate hits and it’s fresh as anything: peach, spice, a lick of white pepper and a clean line of acidity that keeps it light on its feet. Creamy vanilla ice cream meets citrus zip, tied up in this perfectly balanced, textural flow. This is the kind of Chardonnay that struts between plush and precise - confident, complex and stupidly drinkable. This is a genuine steal, one of the best chardonnays we've had in for a good while - and that's not even taking the price into account!

Frequently Asked Questions

Beechworth's unique granite soils and cool climate create Chardonnays with exceptional minerality and natural acidity. The region's elevation and temperature variations allow for slow ripening, resulting in wines with both power and elegance. This terroir produces Chardonnays that are distinctly Australian yet refined, offering a perfect balance between the richness of warmer climates and the precision of cooler regions.

A textural Chardonnay emphasises mouthfeel and weight rather than just flavour intensity. This style typically involves techniques like lees stirring, partial malolactic fermentation, or oak integration that create a creamy, almost tactile sensation on the palate. The full-bodied nature combined with citrus and nectarine flavours suggests a wine with substantial presence that coats the mouth beautifully, making each sip a complete sensory experience.

James Halliday's vintage ratings assess the overall quality conditions for a specific year and region. A 9/10 rating for 2021 indicates near-perfect growing conditions in Beechworth, with ideal weather patterns for grape development and harvest. This exceptional vintage rating suggests the grapes achieved optimal ripeness and flavour concentration, making wines from this year particularly age-worthy and expressive of their terroir.

Serve this wine slightly warmer than typical whites, around 10-12°C, to allow its full-bodied character and textural elements to shine. The citrus and nectarine flavours will be most expressive when not over-chilled, and the wine's weight suggests it can handle richer foods like roasted chicken, creamy seafood dishes, or aged cheeses. Decanting for 30 minutes can also help integrate the flavours and enhance the textural experience.

Boutique producers like Warner Vineyard typically focus on small-batch, hands-on winemaking with meticulous attention to detail that larger operations cannot match. Their single vineyard approach means complete control over grape quality and terroir expression, resulting in wines that truly reflect their specific site. This level of craftsmanship and site-specific focus often produces wines with greater complexity and individual character than mass-produced alternatives.
