Why do we love this wine?

When you get a wine this good, it’s hard to know what to mention first. The expressive single-site fruit, the 2023 vintage that produced wines of exceptional quality from Eden Valley? The deep, complex palate, or Its potential for cellaring? We could go on, but we’ll keep it relatively simple. Beyond the lemon and lime characters awaits so much more: orange blossoms, honeysuckle, marmalade and slate-like minerality will entertain your palate. We’re torn between drinking this now or waiting for its full 2030+ ageing potential, but it’s certainly not going to disappoint either way. The bar is set high here, and we don’t expect this one to stick around for long.

Frequently Asked Questions

Eden Valley's high altitude and cool climate create perfect conditions for Riesling, allowing the grapes to retain natural acidity while developing complex flavours slowly. The region's ancient soils contribute the distinctive slate-like minerality found in this wine, which is a hallmark of premium Eden Valley Rieslings. This terroir combination produces wines with exceptional ageing potential and the characteristic citrus-mineral profile that makes Eden Valley one of Australia's premier Riesling regions.

This Riesling has excellent cellaring potential through to 2030 and beyond, which is remarkable for a young wine. As it ages, the primary citrus flavours will evolve into more complex honey, toast and petrol notes that are prized in mature Rieslings. The wine's natural acidity and mineral backbone provide the structure needed for long-term ageing, though it's equally enjoyable now for those who prefer the vibrant, fresh fruit characteristics.

The wine's light body and aromatic profile make it exceptional with Asian cuisine, particularly Thai or Vietnamese dishes where the lime notes complement spicy flavours. Its minerality and acidity also pair beautifully with fresh seafood, oysters, and goat's cheese. The orange blossom and honeysuckle characters make it surprisingly good with fruit-based desserts or as an aperitif, while the underlying complexity can handle richer dishes like roasted chicken or pork.

Single-site fruit means all grapes come from one specific vineyard block, allowing the wine to express the unique characteristics of that particular terroir. This approach typically results in more focused, distinctive wines compared to blends from multiple sites. For this Riesling, it means every bottle captures the precise soil composition, microclimate, and aspect of one carefully selected Eden Valley vineyard, contributing to the wine's exceptional quality and distinctive mineral character.

The 2023 vintage in Eden Valley benefited from ideal growing conditions that produced wines of outstanding quality and concentration. Cool, consistent weather during the growing season allowed grapes to ripen slowly while maintaining excellent natural acidity. This vintage is already showing the hallmarks of a great year - intense fruit flavours balanced by crisp acidity and strong mineral expression that will reward both immediate drinking and long-term cellaring.
