This expressive chardy just absolutely hums with energy. As detailed as it is delicious, it’s elegant, expressive and purely Yarra Valley - you'll see grapefruit, lemon miringue and cashew butter, all held together by vibrant natural acidity and tasteful French oak. A Yarra drinker's dream.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

This is a Yarra Valley chardonnay with the precise prettiness that we've all come to expect from - huge call incoming - Australia's greatest chardonnay region... We're not the only people who think that either - just have a look at who wins 'Halliday's Chardonnay Challange' every single year! Right from the get-go, you're hit with complex florals and this zingy lemon-grapefruit thing that's as regional as it is delicious. Then you sip the thing - cashew creaminess, lemon meringue sweetness and juicy peach, alongside some smart oak work in action. The acidity's where it gets interesting - crunchy, bit salty, totally moreish. Finishes with a chalky edge that keeps things classy. This is a goodie.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Yarra Valley's cool climate and unique terroir create chardonnays with exceptional balance and complexity that consistently dominate national competitions like Halliday's Chardonnay Challenge. The region's elevation and temperature variations allow for extended ripening periods, developing those signature floral aromatics and zesty citrus characters while maintaining natural acidity. This Yering Lane bottling perfectly showcases why many consider the Yarra Valley Australia's premier chardonnay region.

The 'smart oak work' mentioned creates a beautiful integration rather than overpowering the fruit, contributing to the wine's cashew creaminess and lemon meringue sweetness without masking the natural peach flavours. Well-executed oak treatment in chardonnay adds textural complexity and subtle vanilla notes while allowing the vineyard's character to shine through. The result is a wine where oak enhances rather than dominates, creating that perfect marriage of fruit, texture and structure.

The wine's crunchy, slightly salty acidity and cashew creaminess make it ideal for seafood dishes like grilled prawns or pan-seared scallops, while the peach and citrus notes complement roasted chicken or pork beautifully. The chalky mineral finish and medium body can handle richer preparations like creamy pasta dishes or aged cheeses. The wine's balanced oak integration means it won't compete with delicate flavours but has enough structure for heartier fare.

Single vineyard wines come from grapes grown exclusively in one specific vineyard block, allowing the unique characteristics of that particular site's soil, aspect and microclimate to be fully expressed. This approach typically results in more distinctive, terroir-driven wines compared to regional blends, as winemakers can showcase the individual personality of their best vineyard sites. For Yering Lane, this single vineyard designation represents their commitment to highlighting the exceptional qualities of their prime Yarra Valley location.

Serve this chardonnay chilled at 10-12°C to best showcase its complex aromatics and maintain that refreshing acidity, though allowing it to warm slightly in the glass will reveal more of the cashew and oak nuances. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place away from temperature fluctuations - quality chardonnays like this can develop beautifully over 3-5 years, gaining honeyed complexity while retaining their fresh fruit character. Decanting isn't necessary, but letting it breathe for 10-15 minutes after opening can enhance the floral and citrus aromatics.
