Why do we love this wine?

Excellent sauv blanc is being produced in the King Valley. Who knew? Well, Twin Valleys did. It makes sense that an area with bright, crisp pinot grigio can do the same with savvy b. This one is all tropical fruit and gooseberries, backed by a softer acidity. In layperson’s terms, that means it makes for some easy drinking. So let Twin Valleys do all the hard work in growing the grapes and making the wine. You just relax and pour yourself a glass (or two).

Wine Pilot

Wine Pilot

This is the kind of Sauvignon Blanc for people who may have been turned off by some pretty insipid examples from around the traps. There’s a lot of freshness on display in the mix of fruity and savoury characters: lemon, grass, fresh peas, asparagus, herbaceousness and green apple. Like the other two table whites tasted, there’s some oiliness on the palate, some saltiness, and great minerality, with a pretty full body and loads of acid. Very tasty. - Brendan Black, Wine Pilot.

A powerful expression, the instantly appealing bouquet shows Granny Smith apple, kiwifruit, kaffir lime and jasmine aromas, followed by a concentrated palate offering excellent fruit purity combined with zesty acidity, making it exuberant and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2030. - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Frequently Asked Questions

King Valley's elevation and cool climate create ideal conditions for Sauvignon Blanc, similar to what makes the region excel with Pinot Grigio. The valley's temperature variations help preserve the grape's natural acidity while allowing tropical fruit flavours to develop. This Twin Valleys bottling demonstrates how the region's terroir produces wines with bright fruit character balanced by softer acidity than traditional New Zealand styles.

This Twin Valleys expression showcases a more approachable style with softer acidity compared to the razor-sharp, herbaceous Sauvignon Blancs from cooler regions. The tropical fruit and gooseberry profile reflects King Valley's warmer climate influence, creating a wine that bridges the gap between crisp European styles and riper New World expressions. The 94-point Wine Orbit rating confirms this balanced approach resonates with critics.

The wine's tropical fruit character and softer acidity make it versatile with Asian cuisines, particularly Thai and Vietnamese dishes where the fruit sweetness balances spice. Fresh seafood, goat cheese salads, and herb-crusted chicken also complement the gooseberry and peach notes. The light body means it won't overpower delicate flavours, making it excellent for summer entertaining and casual dining.

The 2024 vintage likely benefited from optimal growing conditions in King Valley, allowing the grapes to achieve perfect ripeness while retaining freshness. Sauvignon Blanc is best consumed young to capture its vibrant fruit character, so this current release represents the wine at its peak expression. The combination of estate-grown fruit and favourable vintage conditions has resulted in a wine that earned recognition as both a critic favourite and standout vintage.

Estate grown indicates Twin Valleys controls the entire winemaking process from vineyard to bottle, ensuring quality consistency and expressing their specific terroir. This hands-on approach allows the winemaker to harvest at optimal ripeness and handle the fruit gently, crucial for preserving Sauvignon Blanc's delicate aromatics. The estate designation also means the wine authentically represents King Valley's unique characteristics rather than blending fruit from multiple regions.
