Why do we love this wine?

Exuding elegance and charm, this is a gris that captivates all senses. Delicate floral aromas intertwine with the vibrant spiced pear, cinnamon, and Meyer lemon notes creating an inviting bouquet. Tensely balanced to provide both freshness and texture, this is really an ‘all-purpose’ wine for any food or mood.

Wine Pilot

Wine Pilot

A highly enjoyable wine that shows what’s possible with Pinot Gris. While perhaps not as complex as the Pinot Grigio, it more than makes up for it with concentrated and vibrant aromas and flavours: apple, peach, lemon, fresh honeysuckle and rose. The palate is salty, oily and zippy, with minerality giving it a sherbet-like feel in the mouth. Of the four wines tasted, it was the winner as the most enjoyable, though out of a solid lineup. I think it’s pretty fair to keep expecting big things from the Twin Valleys team as they’re already delivering in the sweet spot between quality and value. - Brendan Black, Wine Pilot

Frequently Asked Questions

This Twin Valleys Reserve showcases the Alpine Valleys' unique terroir, producing a Pinot Gris with exceptional complexity and multiple award recognition. The combination of floral elegance with spiced pear and cinnamon notes reflects the region's cool climate and elevation, creating more textural depth than many commercial examples. The 'Reserve' designation indicates premium fruit selection and careful winemaking, resulting in a wine that balances freshness with substantial mouthfeel.

The consistent 94-95 point scores across multiple publications reflect this wine's exceptional quality and typicity for Alpine Valleys Pinot Gris. Critics have recognised its perfect balance between aromatic intensity and palate structure, with the Meyer lemon acidity providing backbone to the rich pear and spice flavours. The Gold Medal wins demonstrate its ability to stand out in competitive tastings, where judges evaluate technical excellence alongside drinking pleasure.

The medium body and spiced character make this incredibly versatile for food matching, from delicate seafood to richer poultry dishes. The cinnamon and pear notes complement Asian cuisine beautifully, particularly Thai or Vietnamese dishes with subtle spice. The wine's texture and acidity also pair excellently with creamy pasta dishes, roasted pork, or aged cheeses where the spice elements can bridge flavour gaps.

Alpine Valleys' high altitude and cool nights preserve the delicate aromatics while allowing full flavour development during warm days. This diurnal temperature variation is crucial for Pinot Gris, maintaining natural acidity while developing the complex spice and pear characteristics evident in this wine. The region's granite soils contribute to the wine's mineral backbone and elegant structure, distinguishing it from warmer climate expressions.

While absolutely delicious now, showcasing vibrant fruit and floral aromatics at their peak, this Reserve Pinot Gris has the structure to develop beautifully over 2-3 years. The wine's natural acidity and textural complexity suggest it will gain honeyed notes and deeper spice integration with short-term cellaring. However, given its 'all-purpose' nature and current balance, there's no need to wait - it's performing magnificently at release.
