Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Fiano is one of the newer Italian arrivals on the scene and we couldn’t be happier that it’s here. Fiano is a versatile grape and suits a lot of growing conditions, from the Mediterranean climate of McLaren Vale to the alpine freshness of the King Valley. This KV example is a touch lighter and brighter than what you’d get from the Vale - sitting closer to grigio than say, viognier. There is still heaps of fruit and florals in this wine and acid to accompany all sorts of foods - though no doubt best with something southern Italian.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fiano is a relatively new arrival to Australia from Italy, offering remarkable versatility that sets it apart from more established varietals. Unlike Pinot Grigio which tends to be quite neutral, Fiano delivers more pronounced fruit and floral characteristics while maintaining excellent acidity. This King Valley expression showcases the grape's adaptability to cooler climates, producing a lighter, brighter style that bridges the gap between crisp aperitif wines and more textured whites like Viognier.

The King Valley's alpine freshness creates a distinctly different Fiano compared to warmer regions like McLaren Vale. The cooler climate preserves the wine's natural acidity and produces a lighter, more delicate style with enhanced citrus notes and mineral complexity. This terroir-driven approach results in a wine that's closer in style to Pinot Grigio but with Fiano's signature fruit intensity and floral aromatics intact.

This wine's bright acidity and fresh character make it exceptionally food-friendly, particularly with Southern Italian cuisine as suggested by its Mediterranean heritage. The citrus and melon flavours complement seafood dishes, antipasti platters, and herb-driven pasta sauces beautifully. Its minerality also pairs wonderfully with fresh cheeses, grilled vegetables, and lighter poultry dishes where you want the wine to enhance rather than overpower the meal.

The 2022 Twin Valleys Fiano is designed to be enjoyed in its youth when its fresh, juicy characteristics are at their peak. Light-bodied whites like this typically show best within 2-3 years of vintage, capturing the vibrant citrus and floral notes that define the style. While Fiano can develop some complexity with short-term cellaring, this particular expression is crafted to showcase immediate fruit purity and crisp minerality.

Serve this Fiano well-chilled at around 8-10°C to highlight its fresh, crisp character and enhance the citrus and mineral notes. Use a standard white wine glass to concentrate the delicate floral aromatics while allowing the wine to breathe slightly. The wine's light body and bright acidity make it perfect as an aperitif or paired with food, and its versatile nature means it works equally well for casual sipping or more formal dining occasions.
