We’re ecstatic about Tabalí here at the ‘Fo. We’ve been bringing these into Australia exclusively for a few years now, and the wines just keep getting better. Their chardonnay was of course the initial attention grabber (trust me when I say that South America is doing some incredible stuff with chardy right now).

Why do we love this wine?
So this is where the love affair commenced. Chardonnay from the unique Talinay vineyard, a location 12kms from the Pacific Ocean and nestled adjacent to Fray Jorge National Park. The soil is fractured limestone with calcium carbonate, providing exceptional drainage and imparting minerality in the wine. Fruit is hand harvested and pressed in whole clusters, leading to small vat ferments followed by 10 months in a selection of high-end French oak. Whilst the minerality is the calling card for this vineyard, the wine comes into balance with its creamy palate, citrus purity and harmonious freshness. This has elegance and drive through and through, proving itself worthy of the lofty critical accolades imparted upon it.

Robert Parker
The 2022 Talinay Chardonnay was selected from the slopes in Talinay that are cooler and richer in limestone and have a strong influence from the sea, which makes the wine vibrant and distinctly salty, closer to a Chablis than a Côte d'Or wine in style, with notes of iodine and sea breeze. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in used oak barrels, where it matured for 10 months. It has 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.1 and 8.4 grams of acidity, quite incredible for a year like 2020 that was warm and very dry. It has a sharp, austere and mineral palate.
