Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Green apple, French oak and fresh cream on the nose, the palate opens up with white peach, melon and slightly bready notes. This wine has seen some malolactic fermentation and the richness, creaminess and texture created by this process allow natural acid, zesty citrus and oak-spice to really get to work. A very well-thought-out chardonnay that ticks all the boxes without breaking the bank. This is a smart pick up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool climate allows for extended ripening periods, creating Chardonnays with natural acidity and elegant structure that mainland regions often struggle to achieve. The island's maritime influence helps retain freshness while still allowing for full flavor development. This Russell & Suitor expression showcases Tasmania's ability to produce complex, full-bodied Chardonnays that balance richness with vibrant acidity, a hallmark of the region's premium white wine production.

Malolactic fermentation converts sharp malic acid into softer lactic acid, creating the creamy, buttery texture evident in this wine. This process also produces diacetyl compounds that contribute to the bready, vanilla-like notes on the palate. The partial malolactic treatment here allows the winemaker to maintain some natural acidity for freshness while adding complexity and mouthfeel, creating a balanced style that's both rich and lively.

The wine's creamy texture and oak influence make it ideal for rich seafood dishes like lobster thermidor or pan-seared scallops with butter sauce. The natural acidity cuts through cream-based pasta dishes, while the full body stands up to roasted chicken or pork tenderloin. The green apple and citrus notes also complement soft cheeses like brie or camembert, making it versatile for both casual and formal dining occasions.

Cult producer status typically indicates a winery with limited production, exceptional quality, and strong collector following. Russell & Suitor likely achieves this through meticulous vineyard management, innovative winemaking techniques, and consistent delivery of premium wines that exceed expectations. Their focus on estate-grown fruit and attention to detail in the cellar creates wines that develop devoted followings among wine enthusiasts who seek out their releases.

Store the wine on its side in a cool, dark place at 12-15°C to preserve its freshness and complexity. Serve chilled at 10-12°C to highlight the crisp acidity while allowing the creamy textures to shine. While delicious now, this well-structured Chardonnay can develop additional complexity over 2-3 years, with the oak integration becoming more seamless and secondary flavors emerging. Decanting isn't necessary, but allowing it to warm slightly in the glass will reveal more aromatic complexity.
