Why do we love this wine?
There are Rieslings, and then there are Rieslings that make you stop mid-sip and reconsider everything you thought you knew about the variety.
This is the latter.
We can't name the producer here. Black Market rules. (Just wait till it hits your door!) But here's what we can tell you: this comes from a five-star Halliday-rated winery with over five decades of Riesling history on their estate. The variety first landed here in 1967 as a bundle of cuttings from a legendary South Australian winemaker, and the family has been quietly perfecting it ever since.
This is exactly what quality Riesling should be. Lifted alpine florals on the nose, white flowers and citrus blossoms giving way to lime juice and lemon zest on the palate. Crisp and dry, with a flinty, fine acidity that keeps everything taut and precise, and the finish closes with a bright lemon drop note that goes on and on. YUM.
Like it's previous vintages, Halliday handed it 95 points and Special Value Award. Hard to argue here...
Pair it with fresh seafood, a Thai green curry, or just pour it on a warm arvo... honestly, it's the kind of Riesling you'll be recommending to everyone you know.
