Why do we love this wine?

Les Caillerets is one of Chassagne-Montrachet's most prized Premier Cru plots - limestone-rich, perfectly situated and capable of producing chardonnay of extraordinary complexity and longevity. The 2023 vintage delivered everything you'd hope for - balance, intensity and a natural freshness that gives the wine genuine energy alongside its considerable depth. In the glass it's opulent and completely compelling. Buttery richness, toasted hazelnut and a vibrant acidity that keeps everything focused and alive. The oak ageing adds structure and a subtle smoky complexity without ever overshadowing the fruit. Round, full and unctuous on the palate, with an aromatic complexity that builds and builds and a finish of exceptional length. Drink it now with lobster, veal or anything worthy of the occasion. Or cellar it for a decade and watch it become something even more extraordinarily complex.

VinoMasters

A superbly refined white Burgundy, from one of Chassagne’s finest limestone-rich Premier Cru sites. Pale gold with notes of citrus, white flowers, white peach, toasted hazelnut and subtle smoky oak over wet-stone minerality. The palate is full with a creamy texture, vibrant acidity and layered orchard fruit framed by a stony, saline core. Long, elegant and perfectly balanced finish. Beautiful now, better still with time. Vino Masters Score: 96 / 100 ★★★★★

Frequently Asked Questions

Les Caillerets sits on limestone-rich soils that provide exceptional drainage and mineral complexity, creating ideal conditions for premium Chardonnay. This Premier Cru plot in Chassagne-Montrachet benefits from perfect exposition and elevation, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while retaining natural acidity. The limestone bedrock imparts distinctive mineral notes and contributes to the wine's remarkable ageing potential, often developing for decades in the cellar.

The 2023 vintage in Burgundy delivered exceptional balance after challenging weather patterns, resulting in wines with both power and elegance. This vintage showcases the natural freshness and energy that defines great white Burgundy, with concentrated flavours balanced by vibrant acidity. The combination of intensity and finesse in 2023 makes it particularly compelling for both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring.

The wine's buttery richness and oak structure make it perfect for luxurious proteins like lobster thermidor, roasted veal, or pan-seared scallops. The mineral backbone and acidity also complement rich poultry dishes, creamy mushroom risottos, and aged hard cheeses. The wine's complexity and weight can stand up to dishes with cream sauces or butter-based preparations without being overwhelmed.

While drinking beautifully now, this Premier Cru has the structure and acidity to develop magnificently over 8-12 years in proper cellar conditions. The limestone terroir and quality oak ageing provide the foundation for extended ageing, where the wine will develop honeyed complexity and deeper mineral notes. Store at 12-14°C in a dark environment, and expect the wine to reach peak complexity around 2030-2035.

René Lequin-Colin represents the artisanal tradition of small-scale Burgundy production, focusing on expressing individual vineyard character rather than mass production. As a boutique producer, they maintain meticulous vineyard management and traditional winemaking techniques that preserve the authentic expression of Chassagne-Montrachet terroir. Their single-vineyard approach ensures each wine reflects the unique characteristics of its specific plot, resulting in wines of exceptional authenticity and quality.
