Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Les Caillerets is one of Chassagne-Montrachet's most prized Premier Cru plots - limestone-rich, perfectly situated and capable of producing chardonnay of extraordinary complexity and longevity. The 2023 vintage delivered everything you'd hope for - balance, intensity and a natural freshness that gives the wine genuine energy alongside its considerable depth. In the glass it's opulent and completely compelling. Buttery richness, toasted hazelnut and a vibrant acidity that keeps everything focused and alive. The oak ageing adds structure and a subtle smoky complexity without ever overshadowing the fruit. Round, full and unctuous on the palate, with an aromatic complexity that builds and builds and a finish of exceptional length. Drink it now with lobster, veal or anything worthy of the occasion. Or cellar it for a decade and watch it become something even more extraordinarily complex.

VinoMasters

A superbly refined white Burgundy, from one of Chassagne’s finest limestone-rich Premier Cru sites. Pale gold with notes of citrus, white flowers, white peach, toasted hazelnut and subtle smoky oak over wet-stone minerality. The palate is full with a creamy texture, vibrant acidity and layered orchard fruit framed by a stony, saline core. Long, elegant and perfectly balanced finish. Beautiful now, better still with time. Frequently Asked Questions

Les Caillerets is one of the most prestigious Premier Cru vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, positioned on steep slopes with exceptional limestone-rich soils that impart distinctive minerality. The vineyard's southeast exposure and well-draining chalky terroir create ideal conditions for producing Chardonnay with remarkable depth and complexity. This single vineyard designation represents the pinnacle of Burgundian terroir expression, where each plot tells a unique geological story through the wine.

As a boutique producer, René Lequin-Colin employs traditional Burgundian techniques including careful oak integration and extended lees contact to develop the wine's signature brioche and oaky characteristics. Their approach balances modern precision with time-honoured methods, allowing the natural minerality of Les Caillerets terroir to shine through while building the full-bodied structure. The result is a Chardonnay that showcases both the producer's craftsmanship and the vineyard's unique personality.

The 2023 vintage in Burgundy benefited from ideal growing conditions with warm, dry weather during harvest that concentrated flavours while preserving natural acidity. This combination allowed Chardonnay grapes to achieve optimal ripeness while maintaining the mineral backbone essential for Premier Cru wines. The vintage produced wines with exceptional balance between richness and freshness, making them both approachable young and capable of long-term cellaring.

The wine's rich, oaky profile with brioche notes makes it an ideal match for lobster thermidor, roasted chicken with herbs, or creamy mushroom risotto. The underlying minerality cuts through rich sauces while the full body stands up to substantial dishes like pan-seared scallops or aged cheeses. The oak integration also pairs beautifully with dishes that incorporate butter or cream-based preparations, creating harmonious flavour bridges.

Serve this Chassagne-Montrachet at 10-12°C in large Burgundy glasses to allow the complex aromatics to develop fully. While delicious now, the wine will continue evolving for 8-12 years, with the oak gradually integrating and the minerality becoming more pronounced. Decanting 30 minutes before serving will help open up the wine's layers, revealing the interplay between the brioche richness and the limestone-driven mineral core.
