This is an outstanding drop from a winemaker whom we adore, if for no other reason than they never let us down. Not once. Their wines are fun, playful, energetic and geared for drinking on every occasion

Why do we love this wine?

This pinot gris is all about great winemaking. It’s an idea that seems rather obvious, doesn’t it? We’re not just talking about standard, good, everyday wine here. No no. This is an outstanding drop from a winemaker whom we adore, if for no other reason than they never let us down. Not once. Their wines are fun, playful, energetic and geared for drinking on every occasion (no, apparently, a glass of gris with breakfast on a Tuesday doesn’t regularly fall into that category). But hey, you try and keep your hands off!

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is a boutique producer wine from South Australia's Limestone Coast, crafted by a winemaker known for consistently exceptional quality. Unlike mass-produced wines, boutique producers focus on smaller batches with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in more complex flavour development and distinctive regional character. The textural style indicates careful winemaking techniques that create a more engaging mouthfeel than typical commercial Pinot Gris.

The Limestone Coast is one of Australia's premier cool-climate wine regions, stretching along South Australia's southeastern coastline. The limestone-rich soils provide excellent drainage while retaining moisture, creating ideal conditions for Pinot Gris to develop its characteristic stone fruit flavours and natural acidity. The maritime influence helps maintain the grape's delicate aromatics and prevents over-ripening, resulting in wines with better balance and food-pairing versatility.

A textural style indicates this wine has more weight and complexity on the palate than typical crisp, light Pinot Gris. This is often achieved through techniques like lees contact, partial malolactic fermentation, or extended skin contact, which add richness and a slightly creamy mouthfeel. The medium-bodied weight suggests it will have more substance than refreshing aperitif styles, making it excellent with richer dishes like roasted chicken or creamy pasta.

This flavour profile represents the classic cool-climate Pinot Gris spectrum, moving from citrus brightness to stone and orchard fruit richness. The lemon provides crisp acidity and freshness, while peach adds aromatic complexity and subtle sweetness, and pear contributes to the wine's textural weight and elegant finish. Together, they create a harmonious progression from bright opening notes to a satisfying, fruit-driven conclusion that's both refreshing and substantial.

Yes, this wine is certified vegan, meaning no animal-derived products were used during winemaking. Traditional wine production often uses animal proteins like egg whites or isinglass (fish bladder) for fining and clarification, but vegan wines use plant-based or mineral alternatives like bentonite clay. This certification is increasingly important to conscious consumers and doesn't compromise quality - many premium producers are adopting vegan-friendly methods as standard practice.
