This lot don't muck around, they know that if they're going to make pinot grigio this good, they're going to have to head for 'The Hills'. Boy are we glad that they did, a cracking drop.

Why do we love this wine?

Premium Adelaide Hills fruit in the hands of an exceptional winemaker. If you've heard of Sam Scott (of La Prova fame) then you know the kind of calibre we're talking about here. A celebration of citrus; lemons and limes into grapefruit and tangerine. Beautifully textural and well balanced with a fresh, mineral palate that is so perfect paired with tangy foods like goat’s cheese or a lemon sponge cake. This is pristine, excellent wine.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine showcases the exceptional terroir of Adelaide Hills, one of Australia's premier cool-climate regions, crafted by Sam Scott who's renowned for his work at La Prova. The elevated altitude and cool conditions of Adelaide Hills create wines with remarkable complexity and mineral precision that mass-produced Pinot Grigio simply cannot match. The textural weight and citrus complexity here demonstrate what happens when premium fruit meets masterful winemaking.

The 2025 vintage represents ideal growing conditions in Adelaide Hills, earning recognition as a 'Killer Vintage' with exceptional fruit quality. Cool-climate regions like Adelaide Hills benefit enormously from optimal vintage conditions, as the extended ripening period allows Pinot Grigio to develop its characteristic citrus complexity while retaining crucial acidity. This vintage timing ensures the wine displays both immediate appeal and excellent cellaring potential.

The wine's citrus spectrum from lemon and lime through to grapefruit and tangerine makes it exceptional with tangy, acidic foods that complement rather than compete with its natural acidity. Goat's cheese creates a beautiful contrast between creamy richness and bright acidity, while lemon-based desserts like sponge cake create harmonious flavour echoes. The mineral backbone also pairs beautifully with fresh seafood, particularly oysters or grilled fish with citrus.

Unlike many Pinot Grigio wines that focus purely on crisp freshness, this textural style creates a more substantial mouthfeel that engages your palate differently. The texture comes from careful winemaking techniques that extract more flavour compounds while maintaining elegance, creating a wine that feels more substantial without being heavy. This approach allows the mineral characteristics of Adelaide Hills to shine through while providing enough body to pair with richer foods.

The pronounced mineral palate reflects Adelaide Hills' unique geology, with its ancient soils and elevated vineyard sites creating wines of exceptional purity and site expression. Cool-climate regions naturally produce wines with more mineral complexity as the extended growing season allows vines to extract more nuanced flavours from the soil. This minerality acts as the wine's backbone, providing structure and ensuring the bright citrus flavours remain focused and precise rather than becoming overly fruit-forward.
