Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Handpicked, whole bunch pressed, fermented, rested, filtered and bottled. Very straightforward with no need to get too clever. The acid carries it all of course and this one will age well for at least a decade. Why settle for less than the best? Petaluma needs no introduction. They’re simply icons of the South Australian wine scene. And we’d be insulting your intelligence if we explained why Clare Valley riesling is so damn good.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clare Valley's unique combination of warm days and cool nights, along with its ancient soils and elevation, creates the perfect conditions for Riesling to develop intense citrus flavours while retaining crisp natural acidity. The region's continental climate allows for slow, even ripening that preserves the grape's characteristic aromatics. This terroir produces Rieslings with exceptional aging potential and the distinctive lime-citrus profile that has made Clare Valley internationally renowned.

This Petaluma Riesling can age gracefully for at least a decade, transforming beautifully over time. In its youth, expect vibrant green apple and lemon zest characters, but as it matures, it will develop complex honey, toast and petrol notes that are hallmarks of aged Riesling. The wine's natural acidity acts as a preservative, allowing these tertiary flavours to emerge while maintaining freshness and structure.

Petaluma employs a minimalist approach - handpicking, whole bunch pressing, and straightforward fermentation without unnecessary intervention. This philosophy allows the Clare Valley terroir and Riesling varietal character to shine through unmasked. Their decades of experience mean they understand exactly when to step back and let the wine make itself, resulting in pure, expressive Rieslings that showcase both place and vintage.

The wine's crisp acidity and citrus profile make it exceptional with fresh seafood, particularly oysters, sashimi, or grilled fish with herbs. Its aromatic intensity also complements spicy Asian cuisine, cutting through rich coconut curries or balancing the heat in Thai dishes. The green apple and lemon zest characters pair beautifully with goat's cheese, fresh salads, or simply enjoyed as an aperitif.

Unlike the rich, oaked Chardonnays that dominated Australian white wine for decades, this Riesling represents the pure, unoaked expression that's gaining renewed appreciation. Its light body and aromatic intensity offer a completely different drinking experience from fuller-bodied whites, providing refreshment rather than richness. The natural acidity and aging potential also set it apart from many contemporary Australian whites designed for immediate consumption.
