The producers of this wine have put a lot of thought in, so you don't have to. Chenin blanc is all about balance, and there is *a lot* to balance here: Subtle oak richness, slatey minerality and vibrant acidity, not to mention wonderful floral and citrus notes. But as we said, they've put all the thought in - you just enjoy yourself.

Why do we love this wine?

This is a great example of letting the grape variety shine and it took some real care in the vineyard and the winery to accomplish. Picked in the cool of the early morning hours and rough racked to allow some high solids in suspension, the juice is separated with the majority placed in French oak to ferment and the rest kept to wild ferment on skins to bring an extra textural element. The result is a quintessential Margaret River chenin - floral nose with hints of citrus and tropical fruits and a complex textural palate boasting quince and stone fruit and fantastic length. There's a reason Margs is the home of Aussie chenin, just let them do what they do best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Margaret River's Mediterranean climate and maritime influence create ideal conditions for Chenin Blanc, allowing the variety to develop its characteristic balance of tropical fruit intensity and crisp acidity. The region's consistent temperatures and cooling ocean breezes help preserve the grape's natural aromatics while developing complex textural elements. This terroir expression has established Margaret River as Australia's premier Chenin Blanc region, producing wines that rival the variety's traditional French origins.

The dual fermentation technique combines French oak fermentation with wild skin-contact fermentation, creating exceptional textural complexity rarely seen in Chenin Blanc. Early morning picking preserves delicate aromatics, while intentionally keeping high solids in suspension adds richness and mouthfeel. This innovative approach showcases how modern Australian winemaking can enhance Chenin Blanc's natural versatility, resulting in a wine with both elegance and substance.

Skin contact fermentation for white wines like this Chenin Blanc extracts additional tannins, colour compounds, and flavour precursors that create enhanced texture and complexity. This technique, borrowed from orange wine production, adds weight and structure to what might otherwise be a simple, fruit-forward white. The result is a more food-friendly wine with greater ageing potential and a distinctive mouthfeel that sets it apart from conventional white wine styles.

The wine's textural complexity and stone fruit character make it excellent with rich seafood dishes, roasted chicken, or creamy pasta with herbs. Its quince and tropical fruit notes complement Asian cuisine, particularly Thai or Vietnamese dishes with coconut and lemongrass. The French oak influence and substantial mouthfeel also allow it to pair beautifully with soft cheeses and charcuterie, making it more versatile than typical light-bodied whites.

Organic farming practices enhance soil biodiversity and vine health, leading to more concentrated flavour development and authentic terroir expression in the grapes. Without synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, the vines develop stronger root systems and natural disease resistance, often resulting in smaller yields but more intense fruit character. This approach allows the honeysuckle and citrus aromatics to shine through more clearly, while supporting the complex textural elements that define quality Margaret River Chenin Blanc.
