Why do we love this wine?

The vineyards of Finca Morgadio, based in the Rias Baixas sub-region of Condado do Tea, are known as some of the best in Galicia. The granitic soils combined with the southerly exposure along the banks of the Miño river have shown an incredible ability to nurture albariño to its full extent. We're talking about that classic refreshing, crisp palate humming with a background of tropical and stone fruits. The finish continues with an extended mineral harmony: slate and oyster shell serenading your tastebuds. Drinking albariño is never a problem, but this one makes any you might have simply disappear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rias Baixas, particularly the Condado do Tea sub-region where this wine originates, benefits from a unique combination of Atlantic maritime influence and granite-rich soils. The proximity to the Miño river creates a microclimate that moderates temperatures while the granitic terroir imparts the distinctive mineral backbone that Albariño is famous for. This terroir produces wines with exceptional freshness and complexity that can't be replicated elsewhere.

The granitic soils of Finca Morgadio are crucial to this Albariño's character, contributing to its pronounced mineral finish of slate and oyster shell notes. Granite drains well and retains heat, allowing the grapes to ripen fully while maintaining acidity. This geological foundation creates the wine's signature textural quality and gives it the ability to express both tropical fruit richness and crisp minerality simultaneously.

This textural Albariño's medium body and mineral-driven profile make it exceptional with seafood, particularly oysters, grilled fish, and shellfish where the wine's oyster shell notes create harmonious echoes. The green apple and peach flavours also complement lighter poultry dishes, fresh salads with citrus dressings, and Spanish tapas. Its crisp acidity cuts through creamy sauces while the mineral finish enhances the natural salinity in coastal cuisine.

This 2021 Albariño is drinking beautifully now and showcases the variety's hallmark freshness and vibrant fruit character. While Albariño can develop interesting honeyed and nutty complexities with 3-5 years of cellaring, this wine's tropical and stone fruit profile is at its peak expression currently. The mineral backbone will help it maintain its structure for several more years, but there's no need to wait to enjoy its crisp, refreshing qualities.

Morgadio Reboreda's vineyards benefit from exceptional southerly exposure along the Miño river banks, maximising sun exposure while the granite soils provide natural drainage and mineral complexity. Their approach emphasises expressing the pure terroir characteristics rather than heavy intervention, allowing the variety's natural textural qualities to shine through. This results in an Albariño that balances the grape's typical crisp freshness with deeper mineral complexity and medium-bodied structure.
