New Zealand savvy b is a beast unto itself - the wines are highly sort after the world over, and for good reason. They're fresh, punchy, and broadly appealing.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Uber-stylish sauvignon blanc from New Zealand’s Wairarapa region. This comes equiped with all of the much-loved hallmarks of classic savvy b. Passionfruit, gooseberry, kiwi, lime - tricked up with a bit of mineral complexity thanks to a diverse soil profile. People often stick their savvy b in the fridge as soon as it comes out of the box (and who can blame them), but for the patient among us this will develop beautifully over the next couple of years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wairarapa's diverse soil profile creates a more mineral-driven expression compared to Marlborough's typically grassier style. The region's cooler climate and varied terroir allow the tropical fruit flavours like passionfruit and gooseberry to develop alongside subtle mineral complexity. This results in a more structured wine that can age gracefully, rather than being purely for immediate consumption.

While most people chill and drink Sauvignon Blanc straight away, this Matahiwi Estate wine is built for patience. The mineral complexity from Wairarapa's diverse soils provides a backbone that will allow the wine to develop beautifully over the next couple of years. The tropical fruit flavours will integrate and become more sophisticated with time.

The citrus and passionfruit notes make this excellent with fresh seafood, particularly green-lipped mussels or snapper. The mineral complexity also pairs beautifully with goat's cheese or herb-crusted dishes. The light body and aromatic profile complement Asian cuisine, especially Thai salads or Vietnamese fresh spring rolls.

This style indicates the wine prioritises fragrance and elegance over power and weight. The aromatic profile delivers intense tropical fruit scents that leap from the glass, while the light body means it feels fresh and zippy rather than heavy on the palate. This combination makes it incredibly food-friendly and refreshing, perfect for warm weather drinking.

The 2023 vintage captures the wine at peak freshness, with vibrant acidity and bright fruit expression typical of young Sauvignon Blanc. This vintage timing means you're getting the wine when its tropical fruit flavours are most pronounced, though the underlying mineral structure suggests it will reward those who cellar it for a year or two.
