Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Fresh and energetic chardy from Victoria’s High Country. Nutty, a little savoury and cheesy in parts, but with zippy stone fruit acidity that bristles on the palate. This is a wonderful example of high altitude brightness that doesn’t become overly lean or stingy. Nectarine, whole lemon, apricot, white peach - this has got it all. Complex and generous chardy under fifteen bucks? Sounds like a steal to me.

Frequently Asked Questions

King Valley's high altitude location in Victoria's High Country creates a unique cool climate that allows Chardonnay grapes to retain bright acidity while developing complex flavours. The elevation and temperature variations produce wines with exceptional balance - you get the richness and texture of a full-bodied Chardonnay without losing the zippy freshness that makes the wine so food-friendly. This terroir expression is what gives Gapsted's 2021 vintage its distinctive combination of nutty complexity and vibrant stone fruit character.

The oak influence in this Chardonnay is beautifully integrated, contributing subtle nutty and cashew notes without overwhelming the fruit expression. Rather than heavy vanilla or butter flavours, the oak adds textural complexity and a gentle savoury edge that complements the bright stone fruit core. This restrained approach to oak allows the natural acidity and mineral character from the high-altitude vineyard to shine through, creating a wine that's both rich and refreshing.

The wine's combination of rich texture and bright acidity makes it incredibly versatile with food. The nutty, slightly savoury character pairs beautifully with roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes, or aged hard cheeses, while the zippy stone fruit flavours complement seafood like grilled salmon or prawns. The wine's complexity also makes it excellent with dishes that have both rich and fresh elements, such as risotto with herbs or pan-fried fish with citrus butter.

This Chardonnay is drinking beautifully now and showcases the vibrant, energetic style that makes it so appealing. While it has the structure to develop further complexity over the next 2-3 years, the current balance of fresh stone fruit flavours and integrated oak makes it perfect for immediate enjoyment. The wine's natural acidity will help it age gracefully, but there's no need to wait - it's already expressing its full potential and charm.

This Limited Release Chardonnay delivers exceptional complexity and quality that typically commands much higher prices in the Australian wine market. The combination of high-altitude fruit, skilled winemaking, and the distinctive King Valley terroir creates a wine with layers of flavour and excellent structure. For a full-bodied Chardonnay with this level of sophistication - featuring both richness and freshness with well-integrated oak - it represents outstanding value compared to similar quality wines from more expensive regions.
