Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Tart green apple acidity gives way to a bit of texture and palate breadth. It feels like there are many sides to this wine, but it’s still unfussy and easy going. Fiano is another varietal finding a happy home in Australia, where the fruit expression and ripeness of the grape can really come to the fore and lead the wine without sacrificing complexity. This has really got it all; brightness, lift, texture. It’s such a versatile little number, we can’t imagine a situation where it wouldn’t fit the bill.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fiano thrives in Australia's warm climate because it can achieve optimal ripeness while maintaining its natural acidity and complexity. Unlike cooler European regions where Fiano originated, Australian conditions allow the grape's fruit expression to shine through without becoming overly heavy or losing its characteristic freshness. This Heathcote example demonstrates how Australian Fiano can deliver both immediate appeal and sophisticated structure.

Serve this Fiano well-chilled at 8-10°C to highlight its bright acidity and green apple notes. The wine's textural complexity means it will evolve beautifully in the glass as it warms slightly, revealing more of its apricot and lime characteristics. Consider decanting if you want to emphasise the wine's palate breadth, though it's perfectly enjoyable straight from the bottle.

This wine's versatility shines with seafood dishes, particularly grilled prawns or pan-fried fish where its acidity cuts through richness. The textural elements make it excellent with creamy pasta dishes or risotto, while the bright fruit flavours complement Asian cuisine beautifully. Its unfussy nature means it's equally at home with casual antipasto or more formal dining occasions.

This 2021 Fiano is drinking beautifully now and showcases the fresh, juicy style that makes Australian Fiano so appealing. While Fiano can develop interesting honeyed notes with short-term cellaring, this wine's bright acidity and fruit-forward character suggest it's at its peak for enjoying over the next 2-3 years. The wine's complexity is already well-integrated, making immediate consumption highly rewarding.

Heathcote is primarily known for powerful reds, making this white wine particularly intriguing as it demonstrates the region's versatility. The area's warm days and cool nights create ideal conditions for maintaining acidity in white varieties while achieving full flavour development. This Fiano benefits from Heathcote's mineral-rich soils, which likely contribute to the wine's textural complexity and palate breadth mentioned in the tasting notes.
