Why do we love this wine?

David & Nadia are two new age winemakers who are making waves across the world. Pretty impressive considering the (very) small volumes they make, each bottle as pristine as the next. This is one of my favourite wines. Period. It's incredibly nuanced, and not in a way that is at all unapproachable- just complete and bursting with character. Not only do David & Nadia produce incredible wines, they follow organic and ecological farming practises and minimal intervention in the winery, which ensures their wines reflect their land. Spending a year in old oak, this chenin blanc is complex, well-structured and displays fleshy deliciousness with each sip. With a fresh palate of tropical fruits, citrus and all spice, this white beauty has a long and minerally finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine showcases Chenin Blanc's incredible versatility through 12 months of old oak maturation, which adds complexity and structure while preserving the grape's natural freshness. The Swartland region's unique terroir, combined with old vine fruit and minimal intervention winemaking, creates a textural wine that balances tropical and citrus flavours with mineral depth. This approach demonstrates why Chenin Blanc is considered one of the world's most food-friendly white varieties.

Swartland has emerged as South Africa's most exciting wine region, particularly for natural and minimal intervention winemaking. The region's Mediterranean climate, diverse soils, and abundance of old bush vines create ideal conditions for producing wines with exceptional character and terroir expression. David & Nadia are among the pioneering producers who have helped establish Swartland's reputation for world-class wines that compete on the global stage.

Serve this medium-bodied Chenin Blanc slightly chilled at 10-12°C to showcase its textural complexity and mineral finish. The wine's oak influence and tropical fruit profile make it excellent with roasted chicken, creamy seafood dishes, or aged cheeses. Its natural acidity and mineral backbone also complement spicy Asian cuisine, particularly Thai or Vietnamese dishes where the wine's complexity can balance bold flavours.

Christian Eedes is one of South Africa's most respected wine critics, and a 96-point score represents exceptional quality in the upper echelon of wine ratings. This score indicates the wine demonstrates outstanding complexity, balance, and ageing potential that places it among the finest examples of South African Chenin Blanc. Such high critical acclaim from local experts often signals that international recognition and collectibility will follow.

Quality Chenin Blanc from old vines and careful winemaking like this can age beautifully for 8-12 years or more. The wine's natural acidity and mineral structure provide the backbone for long-term development, while the oak integration will become more seamless over time. As it matures, expect the tropical fruit flavours to evolve into more honeyed and nutty characteristics, while the mineral finish becomes more pronounced and complex.
