Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Super well-structured, with a balanced, aromatic profile—this South African drop is as interesting as it is tasty. Expect notes of almond followed by sweet melon, and don’t be surprised if a pop of peach drops by. This blend is whole-cluster pressed and aged in used French oak barrels. Drink now or cellar till 2030. Either way, don’t miss out.

47% Chenin Blanc, 11% Semillon, 9% Verdelho, 7% Clairette Blanche, 7% Roussanne, 6% Grenache Blanc, 6% Marsanne, 5% Colombar and 2% Viognier. Subtle and elusive aromatics of pear, peach, citrus, hay and flowers while the palate has great fruit expression and bright acidity, the finish lightly grippy. Taut and detailed, a wine of finesse if not quite the same intensity as the previous vintage. Alc: 12.5%

Complex and compelling, with lime flower, grapefruit and beeswax joined by ginger and subtle savoury notes. The palate is layered and textural, with excellent freshness providing tension beneath the richer fruit. A honeyed, gently savoury finish adds further complexity. Try with a creamy prawn risotto. 12.5% Vino Masters Score: 95 / 100 ★★★★★

Frequently Asked Questions

The Aristargos showcases the exceptional terroir of Swartland, where old vines and Mediterranean climate create wines of remarkable complexity. David & Nadia's cult status stems from their minimal intervention approach and ability to craft wines that express pure site character. The 95-point rating from Christian Eedes reflects how this small-batch producer has elevated South African white blends to world-class status through meticulous vineyard selection and winemaking precision.

Whole-cluster pressing is a gentle extraction method that preserves the wine's delicate aromatics and creates the textural complexity you'll find in this bottle. Unlike destemming, this technique allows the stems to act as natural filters, reducing harsh tannins while adding subtle spice notes. The result is a wine with enhanced structure and the distinctive almond character that makes this blend so compelling, particularly when combined with used French oak aging.

The medium-bodied structure and almond-melon profile make this wine incredibly versatile with food. The textural style pairs beautifully with creamy seafood dishes, roasted chicken with herbs, or aged cheeses where the wine's complexity can shine. The lemon and melon notes also complement Asian cuisine, particularly dishes with ginger or lemongrass, while the French oak aging provides enough weight to stand up to richer preparations.

This wine offers two distinct drinking experiences depending on your preference. Drinking now reveals the vibrant fruit expression and fresh acidity that makes it immediately appealing. However, cellaring until 2030 will allow the used French oak to integrate further, developing honeyed complexity and deeper textural elements. The old vine fruit provides the backbone necessary for extended aging, so your choice depends on whether you prefer youthful exuberance or mature sophistication.

Swartland's hot, dry climate and ancient soils create ideal conditions for producing concentrated, mineral-driven white wines. The region's old bush vines, some over 40 years old, naturally limit yields and concentrate flavours, explaining the 'Old Vine' designation on this bottle. The Mediterranean climate with cooling Atlantic breezes allows for slow ripening, preserving acidity while developing the complex flavour profile that has made Swartland one of South Africa's most exciting wine regions.
