Aristargos is a complex and structured white blend - big and bold, but balanced - with nectarines, citrus pith and honey suckle, and a minerally finish.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Hailing from South Africa’s Swartland region, David & Nadia are an absolute power couple of wine, part of a new generation of ecological producers. Following the practises of organic farming and hands-off winemaking, David and Nadia simply guide the wine from grape to bottle, and do so exceptionally well. This is a complex blend (and not in a way that is at all unapproachable) with chenin blanc as the hero. The parcels of fruit from predominantly old vine plantings go to french oak barrels for 11 months to build texture, weight, and an all round delicious touch. We could drink this every night of the week, if it weren't in such short supply.

49% Chenin Blanc, 9% Clairette Blanche, 8% Semillon, 7% Grenache Blanc, 7% Roussanne, 6% Verdelho, 6% Viognier, 4% Marsanne and 4% Colombard – nine varieties from 19 different vineyards and involving 21 pickings. Expressive and yet not obvious aromatics – hints of quince, peach, yellow apple, potpourri, fennel and spice. The palate has a good core of fruit and well-integrated acidity before a finish that is long and savoury. Intricate in every sense being intensely flavoured, slightly grippy in texture and just beautifully balanced.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Aristargos showcases the exceptional potential of South Africa's Swartland region through old vine chenin blanc as the foundation. David & Nadia's ecological approach means minimal intervention winemaking that allows the ancient vines to express their full character. The 11-month French oak maturation creates remarkable texture and complexity while maintaining the wine's natural vibrancy, earning it recognition from top critics including 96 points from Christian Eedes.

The 11 months in French oak barrels transforms this blend from a simple white wine into a textural masterpiece. Rather than overwhelming the fruit, the oak integration builds weight and mouthfeel while preserving the bright almond, lemon and melon flavours. This extended barrel ageing is unusual for many white wines but perfectly suits the old vine fruit's intensity, creating a wine that drinks beautifully now yet has the structure for further development.

Chenin blanc is South Africa's signature white variety and thrives in the Swartland's warm, dry conditions. The old vine plantings used here produce fruit with exceptional concentration and natural acidity, providing the perfect backbone for blending. Chenin's versatility allows it to handle oak treatment beautifully while maintaining its characteristic stone fruit and citrus notes, making it ideal for creating complex, age-worthy white blends like the Aristargos.

David & Nadia follow organic farming principles and hands-off winemaking, meaning they work with nature rather than against it. This approach involves avoiding synthetic chemicals in the vineyard and minimal intervention during fermentation, allowing the wine to develop naturally. The result is a more authentic expression of the Swartland terroir, with greater complexity and character that reflects the specific site and vintage conditions.

Serve this textural white slightly chilled at 10-12°C to showcase its complex aromatics and oak integration. The wine's medium body and almond-lemon-melon profile pairs beautifully with roasted chicken, creamy seafood dishes, or aged hard cheeses. Its textural weight from oak maturation makes it substantial enough for richer foods that would overpower lighter whites, while the bright acidity keeps it food-friendly.
