Why do we love this wine?
As a buyer, riesling is always exciting. This variety is an under-rated chameleon, and this is a rare find. When the new vintage talks come up for the Crabtree Pomona riesling, I pounce on everything we can get. There’s hints of orange peel and jasmine underlying the preserved lemon and lime freshness. Heaps of that roaring acid. Fresh, dry, and perfect to quench your thirst on a warm day.

Wine Orbit
Pristine and tightly structured, showing green apple, grapefruit, nectarine and green tea nuances on the nose. The palate offers excellent concentration and focus, brilliantly framed by racy acidity, finishing impressively long and linear. Beautifully poised with refined texture, promising to evolve graciously. At its best: 2028 to 2039.
Wine Pilot
Lovely lifted aromas of lemon zest, melon, lime juice, lemon pith and jasmine. Pretty and pure. There’s good mid palate intensity and freshness, with melon, lemon juice, lime skin, and a blossom prettiness adding lift. A lick of residual sugar adds viscosity and interest, before being quickly drawn into linearity by high, pithy, citrus-drenched acidity. Good clean line and length through the finish. It’s the balance that makes this wine, holding together fruit, sugar, and acid beautifully. FIve to ten years in the cellar will reward.

A three-block selection from the Crabtree estate vineyard in Watervale, bringing out a more delicate Riesling, aromas spread across the yellow and green citrus spectrum, lemon zest a clear part of the mix. While the “Estate” of the same vintage is turbo-charged in acidity, this is far more restrained with a powder and pith like texture softening the grapes’ natural acid lines and lengthening its palate drive and quiet yet clear set of Riesling flavours. Sensitive styling ensures an elegant varietal expression
