Tasmania does chardonnay like nowhere else. This barnstorming release is all about cool-climate finesse - the island’s crisp air, long ripening, and mineral-rich soils give the wine that signature lift and vibrancy. It’s elegant, focused, and effortlessly drinkable - a perfect showcase of why Tasmania keeps punching above its weight for chardonnay.

Why do we love this wine?

This one pours a pale straw and immediately leans into that cool-climate energy - white peach, nectarine and citrus blossom up front, with a little melon and a gentle spice note floating behind. There’s a faint whiff of crème fraîche and crushed stone that gives it that unmistakable Tassie edge. On the palate it’s all about purity and pace. Stone fruit and bright citrus glide through the middle, carried by zesty acidity that keeps everything tight and refreshing. It’s crisp without being sharp, textured without getting heavy. A short stint on lees and a mix of stainless and seasoned French oak bring just enough creaminess to round it out, but the fruit is very much in charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool maritime climate produces Chardonnays with exceptional purity and natural acidity, quite different from warmer mainland regions. The extended growing season allows for gradual flavour development while retaining that signature 'crushed stone' minerality. This wine exemplifies the Tasmanian style with its bright citrus core, restrained oak influence, and elegant texture that balances richness with refreshing crispness.

The combination of stainless steel and seasoned French oak creates a perfect balance between fruit purity and subtle complexity. The short lees contact adds creamy texture without overwhelming the delicate stone fruit flavours, while the seasoned oak contributes structure rather than obvious vanilla or butter notes. This restrained approach allows the cool-climate fruit characteristics to shine through while adding just enough richness to create a well-rounded wine.

The wine's medium body and zesty acidity make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with seafood and poultry dishes. Try it with pan-seared scallops, roasted chicken with herbs, or creamy pasta with white sauce. The citrus and stone fruit flavours also complement Asian cuisine beautifully, especially dishes with ginger or lemongrass, while the subtle creaminess can handle richer preparations without being overwhelmed.

This Chardonnay is drinking beautifully now, showcasing its vibrant fruit and crisp acidity at peak freshness. However, quality cool-climate Chardonnays like this can develop additional complexity over 3-5 years, with the citrus notes evolving into more honeyed characters while maintaining that essential mineral backbone. The choice depends on whether you prefer the current bright, energetic style or want to experience how it develops more nuanced, integrated flavours with time.

A 'Killer Vintage' rating of 90 points suggests 2025 was an exceptional year in Tasmania, likely featuring ideal weather conditions that allowed for perfect ripening without excessive heat stress. Cool-climate regions like Tasmania benefit from consistent temperatures and adequate rainfall, which preserve natural acidity while developing complex flavours. This rating indicates the vintage produced wines with outstanding balance, concentration, and ageing potential across the region.
