There's a feeling you get with great Tasmanian chardonnay that's hard to put into words. A brightness. A tension. A sense that everything in the glass is perfectly coiled and ready to go somewhere interesting. This is that feeling. Elegant, rich, energetic and full-bodied. This is a special wine.

Why do we love this wine?

From one of northern Tasmania's most celebrated cool-climate estates - a site shaped by long daylight hours, maritime breezes and a slow, unhurried ripening season that produces fruit of extraordinary purity and focus. Stone fruit, citrus and a flinty, nutty complexity on the nose. The palate is precise and mineral, with a creamy texture and a long, bright finish that lingers in the most satisfying way. One of the better Tassie chardonnays on the market.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool maritime climate creates ideal conditions for Chardonnay, allowing for extended hang time and slow ripening that mainland regions can't replicate. The long daylight hours combined with cool nights preserve natural acidity while developing complex flavours, resulting in wines with exceptional purity and mineral precision. This particular northern Tasmanian site benefits from maritime breezes that moderate temperatures, creating the perfect environment for producing Chardonnay with both power and elegance.

Flinty refers to a mineral character reminiscent of struck flint or wet stones, often found in cool-climate Chardonnays grown on mineral-rich soils. The nutty complexity comes from a combination of factors including malolactic fermentation and possible oak influence, creating almond and hazelnut notes. Together, these characteristics indicate a sophisticated wine that balances fruit purity with textural richness, suggesting careful winemaking that enhances the natural terroir expression.

Serve this wine slightly chilled at 10-12°C to highlight its mineral precision while allowing the creamy texture to shine through. The full-bodied nature means it can handle richer foods like roasted chicken, lobster, or creamy pasta dishes without being overwhelmed. Decanting isn't necessary, but allowing it to warm slightly in the glass will reveal more of the stone fruit and nutty complexity as the wine opens up.

Black Market Deals typically represent exceptional value wines from premium producers who prefer to remain anonymous, often due to contractual obligations or brand protection strategies. This allows wine lovers to access high-quality fruit from celebrated estates at prices well below their usual retail offerings. The 90-point Staff Pick rating combined with the anonymous premium Tasmanian source suggests this represents outstanding value for a wine that would normally command much higher prices.

While this Chardonnay is drinking beautifully now with its precise mineral character and creamy texture fully developed, quality Tasmanian Chardonnays often reward patience. The wine's structure and acidity suggest it could evolve gracefully over 3-5 years, developing more complex tertiary flavours while maintaining its bright finish. However, given its current harmony and the immediate pleasure it provides, there's no need to wait if you're eager to experience this exceptional cool-climate expression.
