Tasmania does chardonnay like nowhere else. This barnstorming release is all about cool-climate finesse - the island’s crisp air, long ripening, and mineral-rich soils give the wine that signature lift and vibrancy. It’s elegant, focused, and effortlessly drinkable - a perfect showcase of why Tasmania keeps punching above its weight for chardonnay.

Why do we love this wine?

This one pours a pale straw and immediately leans into that cool-climate energy - white peach, nectarine and citrus blossom up front, with a little melon and a gentle spice note floating behind. There’s a faint whiff of crème fraîche and crushed stone that gives it that unmistakable Tassie edge. On the palate it’s all about purity and pace. Stone fruit and bright citrus glide through the middle, carried by zesty acidity that keeps everything tight and refreshing. It’s crisp without being sharp, textured without getting heavy. A short stint on lees and a mix of stainless and seasoned French oak bring just enough creaminess to round it out, but the fruit is very much in charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool climate creates a distinctive tension between ripeness and acidity that's evident in this wine. The island's maritime influence and higher latitude produce Chardonnays with more restrained alcohol, brighter natural acidity, and mineral complexity from the ancient soils. This results in wines that showcase pure fruit expression rather than the richer, more tropical styles often found in warmer mainland regions.

The combination of stainless steel and seasoned French oak creates a balanced expression where neither technique dominates. Stainless steel preserves the bright citrus and stone fruit purity, while the seasoned oak adds subtle texture without overwhelming vanilla or butter notes. The brief lees contact contributes a creamy mouthfeel that complements rather than masks the natural fruit character, creating complexity without heaviness.

The wine's bright acidity and mineral backbone make it excellent with seafood, particularly grilled fish or shellfish where the citrus notes can enhance oceanic flavours. The creamy texture pairs beautifully with soft cheeses or chicken dishes with herb-based sauces. The stone fruit character also works well with pork tenderloin or roasted vegetables, while the crisp finish cleanses the palate between bites.

This 2025 vintage is drinking beautifully now, showcasing vibrant primary fruit flavours and fresh acidity. However, quality Tasmanian Chardonnays often develop additional complexity over 3-5 years, with the citrus notes evolving into more honeyed characteristics while maintaining their mineral core. If you enjoy bright, fruit-forward styles, drink it within the next two years; for more developed flavours, cellar until 2027-2029.

Cool-climate energy refers to the vibrant, electric quality that comes from grapes ripened slowly in moderate temperatures. This extended growing season allows flavour development while preserving natural acidity, creating wines with bright, focused fruit character and mineral precision. The result is a wine that feels alive and refreshing rather than soft or flabby, with flavours that seem to dance on the palate rather than sitting heavily.
