This is some super small-batch gear. Mornington chardonnay is already one of the harder wines to get a hold of - this one, forget about it... until now! Ripe in the right places, zippy and slatey where you want it. That delicate balance is all held together by a good hit of French oak and the faintest hint of salinity on the finish. Fantastic stuff.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

This is a wine that really captures what Mornington Peninsula in an excellent year looks like - quality fruit, skilled winemaking and a final product that'll knock your socks clean off. A chardonnay with impeccable balance and poise combined with deep, precise concentrated power. The nose offers slightly savoury chalky character alongside light stone fruit, and a fine lime zest that adds brightness and lift. It's a compelling combination that draws you straight in for the moment it first passes your lips. The palate is where this really shines - deeply concentrated fruit intensity that somehow retains that distinctive Mornington linear structure. Chalky acidity works its magic throughout, sustaining momentum through to an extended finish that just keeps going forever. There's a real lip-smacking feel in your mouth that makes you immediately reach for another sip. That said, this wine is not finished with us just yet - this'll continue to develop and grow for the next 5 - 8 years... come along for the ride!

Frequently Asked Questions

Mornington Peninsula's cool maritime climate creates Chardonnays with distinctive linear structure and chalky minerality that sets them apart from warmer regions. The peninsula's proximity to Port Phillip Bay moderates temperatures, allowing for extended ripening periods that develop complex stone fruit flavours while maintaining crisp acidity. This terroir produces wines with remarkable balance between power and elegance, as evidenced in this 2024 vintage's combination of concentrated fruit intensity and refreshing lime zest character.

This wine is designed for both immediate enjoyment and extended cellaring, with optimal development expected over the next 5-8 years. The chalky acidity and concentrated fruit structure provide the backbone needed for graceful ageing, during which the stone fruit flavours will integrate further and develop more complex tertiary notes. While delicious now, patience will be rewarded as the wine's full-bodied character evolves and the mineral elements become more pronounced with proper storage.

The wine's creamy texture and chalky minerality make it ideal for rich seafood dishes like lobster thermidor or pan-seared scallops with butter sauce. The lemon and stone fruit notes complement roasted chicken with herbs, while the full-bodied structure can handle creamy pasta dishes and soft cheeses like brie or camembert. The wine's savoury chalky character also pairs beautifully with oysters, creating a classic match that highlights both the wine's minerality and the shellfish's briny sweetness.

The exceptional 95-point rating reflects the wine's remarkable balance between power and finesse, showcasing skilled winemaking that captures the essence of an excellent Mornington Peninsula vintage. The rating recognises the wine's complex aromatic profile combining savoury chalky notes with bright citrus elements, plus its ability to deliver concentrated fruit intensity while maintaining elegant structure. Such high scores are typically reserved for wines that demonstrate both immediate appeal and long-term cellaring potential, which this Chardonnay clearly possesses.

The creamy texture likely comes from malolactic fermentation and possibly some lees stirring, which adds richness and mouthfeel while softening the wine's natural acidity. However, the prominent chalky minerality suggests the winemaker preserved the vineyard's terroir expression through careful handling and possibly some stainless steel fermentation to maintain freshness. The balance between creamy and mineral elements indicates a thoughtful approach that may have involved partial oak treatment or extended lees contact, creating complexity without overwhelming the fruit's natural character.
