This is the work of a small, boutique producer with a serious cult following. Some malolactic work gives richness and fullness to what is otherwise a focused, piercing iteration of Australia's favourite grape: chardonnay. As any good chardonnay should be, this one's all about balance.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Green apple and pear initially, with focused, laser-like citrus acidity that races up the centre of the palate. Some nutty, mealy, biscuity savoury notes chime in just after and offer another dimension to the wine. This is a beautiful expression of fruit - lifted and aromatic and tantalisingly refreshing. Seriously limited wine from an already small producer - get in quick or miss out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool climate produces Chardonnays with exceptional natural acidity and mineral precision, as evidenced by this wine's 'laser-like citrus acidity.' The island's unique terroir allows for extended ripening periods, developing complex flavors while maintaining freshness. This creates a distinctive style that balances richness with elegance, quite different from the warmer climate expressions found on the mainland.

This comes from a small Tasmanian producer with naturally limited production capacity, making each vintage precious and highly sought after. Small producers often focus on quality over quantity, hand-selecting grapes and using artisanal winemaking techniques. The 'Cult Producer' rating reflects this exclusivity - once it's gone, you may not see another vintage for months or even a year.

The wine's nutty, biscuity notes and full body make it perfect for rich seafood dishes like lobster thermidor or pan-seared scallops. The bright acidity cuts through creamy sauces beautifully, while the mineral backbone complements oysters and other shellfish. Try it with roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes, or aged hard cheeses where the wine's complexity can shine alongside equally sophisticated flavors.

Serve chilled at 10-12°C to highlight the crisp acidity and aromatic lift described in the tasting notes. While this 2024 vintage is drinking beautifully now, quality Tasmanian Chardonnays often develop additional complexity over 2-3 years. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place - the wine's natural acidity and full-bodied structure suggest good aging potential.

Staff picks represent wines that industry professionals personally recommend from extensive tastings, often indicating exceptional value or unique character. Pete's selection suggests this Chardonnay stood out among many options for its quality-to-price ratio and distinctive Tasmanian expression. These insider recommendations often highlight wines that might be overlooked but offer something special - in this case, the beautiful fruit expression and refreshing character that makes it 'tantalisingly refreshing.'
