Get a bit of this in your glass! Ripe, rich stone fruits and creamy nougat layered atop, dare we say, toasty lemon butter. All the things we love about Yarra Valley chardonnay, right here, right now.

Why do we love this wine?

A thoroughly harmonious swirl of citrus, stone fruit and a hint of fresh cream on warm scones. This is a Yarra chardy with one thing in mind, balance. Natural acidity and fresh minerality are complimented, even accentuated, by a subtle touch of French oak and a very chardonnay-esque mouthfeel. Somehow both rich and vibrant. We're big fans.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Layla Chardonnay showcases the cooler climate elegance that Yarra Valley is renowned for, balancing richness with vibrant acidity. Unlike heavily oaked Australian Chardonnays of the past, it uses subtle French oak to enhance rather than dominate the fruit character. The natural minerality from Yarra's volcanic soils creates complexity while maintaining the fresh, balanced style that modern wine drinkers prefer.

The 2024 vintage has been rated as a 'Killer Vintage,' indicating exceptional growing conditions that produced concentrated, well-balanced fruit. This translates to a wine with both power and finesse - the stone fruit flavors are more intense while retaining natural acidity. Such outstanding vintages typically age beautifully, developing more complex secondary flavors over 3-5 years while maintaining their core vibrancy.

The wine's creamy texture and citrus-stone fruit profile make it ideal for rich seafood dishes like lobster thermidor or pan-seared scallops. The French oak integration and full body can stand up to roasted chicken with herbs or creamy pasta dishes. The natural acidity cuts through rich sauces while the vanilla notes complement dishes with butter-based preparations or light cream sauces.

While delicious now with its fresh citrus and stone fruit character, this wine has the structure to develop beautifully over 3-5 years. The natural acidity and subtle oak will integrate further, developing honeyed and nutty complexity typical of aged Chardonnay. If you enjoy bright, fruit-forward styles, drink within 2 years; for more complex, developed flavors, cellar until 2027-2029.

Estate grown means Helen & Joey control every aspect from vineyard to bottle, ensuring consistent quality and expressing their specific terroir. This hands-on approach allows for optimal harvest timing and gentle handling of the grapes, crucial for premium Chardonnay. Estate producers typically have deeper knowledge of their vineyard sites, resulting in wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of their Yarra Valley location and winemaking philosophy.
