Richly fruited, shapely, elegant Margaret River chardonnay with driving acidity and a hint of minerality? Sounds like a winner to me. We love this wine, easy to drink, easy to love - no fuss chardy!

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Hand picked fruit, whole bunch press to juice, and fermented with wild yeast. Extended ageing on lees in 30% new French oak. This is stylish wine to be sure. Round and shapely like it's regional compatriots, but with a certain slick French styling that shows off a bit of acidity and mineral complexity. That time in barrel provides a subtle backbone of cedar and structure, completing a lovely drink that exudes freshness but certainly won't fade away with a bit of cellar time.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Atlus Rise Ascension Chardonnay earned its exceptional 95-point Wine Orbit rating through masterful winemaking that balances textural complexity with pristine fruit expression. Margaret River's unique maritime climate creates ideal conditions for Chardonnay, allowing extended ripening that develops the wine's signature brioche and citrus characteristics. The textural style indicates careful lees stirring and possibly partial malolactic fermentation, creating the creamy mouthfeel that complements the bright acidity typical of this renowned region.

The 2024 vintage represents the very latest expression of Margaret River Chardonnay, showcasing contemporary winemaking techniques applied to exceptional fruit quality. Being so recent, this wine likely displays vibrant primary fruit flavours of white peach and citrus, with the textural elements still integrating beautifully. Young Chardonnays from quality producers like Atlus Rise often benefit from a few months in bottle to allow the brioche notes from lees contact to marry with the fruit, creating greater complexity over the next 2-3 years.

The medium-bodied, textural nature of this Chardonnay makes it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with dishes that can match its creamy weight without overwhelming the delicate white peach and citrus notes. Classic pairings include roasted chicken with herbs, pan-seared fish with butter sauce, or creamy pasta dishes. The brioche characteristics also complement soft cheeses beautifully, while the underlying acidity cuts through richer preparations like lobster thermidor or mushroom risotto.

Margaret River's position between the Indian and Southern Oceans creates a unique mesoclimate that's particularly suited to Chardonnay production. The region's gravelly soils provide excellent drainage while the maritime influence ensures cool nights that preserve acidity, even as days warm enough to develop complex flavours like the white peach and citrus notes found in this wine. This natural balance allows winemakers to craft textural styles without losing the bright, fresh characteristics that make Margaret River Chardonnays so distinctive and age-worthy.

A textural Chardonnay style emphasises mouthfeel and weight rather than just fruit flavours, often achieved through techniques like lees stirring, partial malolactic fermentation, and careful oak integration. This approach creates the creamy, almost tactile sensation that complements the brioche notes in this wine, while maintaining the fresh citrus and white peach characteristics. The result is a more complex, food-friendly wine that offers both immediate appeal and the structure to develop additional nuances over several years in the cellar.
