Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Complex layers of lemon pith, white nectarine, roasted cashew, citrus blossom and just a flicker of spice. The palate is textured, taut and savoury, with a line of minerality that cuts like a hot knife through (lemon) butter. There’s plenty of fruit, nectarine, grapefruit and pear skin, but it’s all balanced by subtly chalky minerality and mouthwatering acidity. New French oak adds a toasty, vanillan aspect, wrapping things up in structure rather than sweetness. That little hint of grapefruit pith on the finish... unbelievable.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Chardonnay showcases the modern Australian approach to oak integration, where French oak provides structure and texture rather than overwhelming sweetness. The oak contributes toasty, vanillan notes that complement rather than mask the fruit, allowing the wine's natural minerality and acidity to shine through. This creates a more sophisticated, food-friendly style that's become the hallmark of premium Yarra Valley Chardonnays.

The Yarra Valley's cool climate and diverse soil types create ideal conditions for producing elegant, complex Chardonnays with natural acidity and mineral depth. The region's elevation and proximity to Melbourne provide temperature variations that allow grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness. This terroir influence is evident in this wine's chalky minerality and citrus-driven character, which are classic markers of premium Yarra Valley Chardonnay.

A textural wine engages your palate beyond just flavour, creating a tactile sensation that adds complexity to the drinking experience. This Chardonnay's textural quality comes from techniques like lees stirring and careful oak integration, which build mouthfeel and weight without heaviness. The result is a wine that feels substantial and engaging on the palate, with layers that unfold as you taste, rather than a simple, one-dimensional experience.

Serve this Chardonnay slightly chilled at 10-12°C to preserve its fresh acidity while allowing the complex flavours to express fully. The full-bodied nature and textural elements make it perfect for pairing with richer dishes like roasted chicken, creamy seafood, or aged cheeses. Consider decanting if serving immediately after opening, as the wine will benefit from a brief aeration to showcase its layered aromatics.

The 90-point score and Special Value Award from James Halliday indicate exceptional quality-to-price ratio, suggesting this wine punches well above its weight class. Halliday's Five Red Star winery rating means the producer consistently delivers outstanding wines across their range. These accolades, combined with the Staff Pick designation, signal that this represents both immediate drinking pleasure and potential for short-term cellaring to develop further complexity.
