This gorgeous drop is from a classy little boutique out west, with the wines produced by none other than Bruce Dukes - we like to call him the 'The Godfather of Margaret River Chardonnay' - it'll only take one sip for that to make sense.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

There is so much to love here. Creamy and textured with punchy, peppy green apple acidity that runs throughout the wine. A mineral baseline gives it freshness and a steely quality, but the palate overall is rich, creamy, and inviting. Some flashy oak offers welcome vanilla and pastry generosity. This is classic and delicious, a brilliant Margs chardy that has been lovingly crafted. A chardonnay that feels like it's just getting into its rhythm, this one will continue to develop for at least the next 8 years, good luck keeping your hands off it for that long!

Frequently Asked Questions

Margaret River's unique maritime climate creates the perfect conditions for this style of Chardonnay, with cool ocean breezes moderating temperatures and allowing for extended ripening periods. This results in the wine's distinctive mineral backbone and steely quality, while the region's gravelly soils contribute to the textural complexity. The combination of these terroir factors with skilled winemaking produces a Chardonnay that balances richness with freshness - a hallmark of premium Margaret River whites.

Serve this wine slightly chilled at 10-12°C to showcase its creamy texture while maintaining the crisp green apple acidity. The full-bodied nature and oak integration make it perfect for pairing with rich seafood dishes like lobster thermidor, roasted chicken with herbs, or creamy pasta dishes. Decanting isn't necessary, but allowing it to breathe in the glass for 10-15 minutes will help the vanilla and pastry notes from the oak treatment to fully express themselves.

The textural style refers to the wine's substantial mouthfeel and layered complexity beyond just flavour. This Chardonnay achieves its texture through techniques like lees stirring and partial malolactic fermentation, creating that creamy, almost viscous quality described in the tasting notes. The mineral baseline provides structure while the oak treatment adds weight and richness, resulting in a wine that feels substantial and satisfying on the palate rather than thin or one-dimensional.

The 2023 vintage in Margaret River benefited from ideal growing conditions with a long, dry summer that allowed grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. This extended hang time concentrated flavours while preserving natural acidity, explaining the wine's punchy green apple character balanced with rich, creamy textures. Exceptional vintages like this often produce wines with both immediate appeal and excellent ageing potential, which aligns perfectly with the prediction that this Chardonnay will develop beautifully over the next 8 years.

Over the next 8 years, this Chardonnay will evolve from its current vibrant, oak-forward character into something more integrated and complex. The green apple acidity will soften and meld with the creamy textures, while the vanilla and pastry notes from oak will become more subtle and harmonious. Expect the development of honeyed, nutty characteristics and increased mineral expression as the wine matures, transforming from a rich, immediate pleasure into a sophisticated, nuanced expression of Margaret River terroir.
