A refreshing, zippy and elegant chardy with a creamy, malolactic aspect and pristine fruit. After a long day out and about in the sun, we can't think of anything better than pulling this belter out of the esky and sharing a bottle or two with the campsite. That's just us though, this wine also works if you're not camping.

Why do we love this wine?

A reviewer, who can't be named (Black Market - you know the drill), described this wine as, "impressive and enjoyable", and that's pretty much the whole point of this wine. Yep, it's made well; vibrant, juicy acid, pristine lemon and white peach and a slight creaminess from partial malolactic fermentation. But this cheeky little number is also a whole bunch of fun; zippy, zesty, refreshing and bright. This really is a great addition to the cellar, for when you feel like a chardonnay but it's a bit hot out for melted butter in a glass. This'll keep for another four or five years but as the winemakers say, "Made to be enjoyed!".

Frequently Asked Questions

This Adelaide Hills Chardonnay showcases a fresher, more vibrant style through partial malolactic fermentation rather than full malo conversion. This technique preserves the wine's natural acidity while adding just a hint of creaminess, creating a perfect balance between crisp minerality and subtle richness. It's designed for those who appreciate Chardonnay's elegance without the heavy, buttery characteristics that can overwhelm in warmer weather.

Adelaide Hills' cool climate and elevated vineyards are ideal for producing Chardonnay with natural acidity and pristine fruit flavours. The region's diurnal temperature variation helps retain the vibrant citrus and white peach notes while developing complexity. This terroir allows winemakers to craft wines that express pure fruit character rather than relying heavily on oak or malolactic fermentation to create interest.

The wine's fresh acidity and medium body make it versatile for lighter fare and seafood dishes. Try it with grilled prawns, pan-fried fish with lemon, or creamy pasta with herbs where the wine's zippy character can cut through richness without competing. The subtle peach and citrus flavours also complement Asian cuisine, particularly dishes with ginger or light coconut-based sauces.

The 94-point rating from Wine Showcase Magazine reflects the wine's exceptional balance between freshness and complexity. High-scoring Chardonnays typically demonstrate precise winemaking that showcases both varietal character and regional expression. This wine achieves that balance through careful handling of malolactic fermentation and likely judicious use of oak, creating a wine that's both technically sound and immediately enjoyable.

While this Chardonnay will develop beautifully over 4-5 years, it's crafted in a style that's immediately rewarding. The winemaker's philosophy of 'made to be enjoyed' suggests optimal drinking within the first few years when the vibrant fruit flavours are at their peak. Cellaring will add complexity and integrate the subtle creaminess further, but you'll sacrifice some of that zippy, refreshing character that makes this wine special.
