When our mates in the Coal River Valley showed us this wine in its early days, we knew it was the kind of wine that we could not get enough of. A couple of years down the track, and it's seen such an exciting evolution, truly drinking in its prime.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

There's a great mineral line running through the core, adding an extra layer of complexity on top of the lemon and peach fruit profile. The wine is a bit on the fuller side for such a cool climate region, but we absolutely love that. We’re not talking rich like Margaret River, but certainly bigger and bolder than your average Tassie bottle of white. We're nearly at the end of what was available from 2021, and we'll be sad to see this near perfect vintage walk out the door for the final time. Do us a favour, and love it just as much as we do.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

This 2021 Chardonnay breaks the mould of delicate cool climate wines by offering a fuller, more substantial body while maintaining Tasmania's signature mineral backbone. The combination of lemon and peach fruit with pronounced minerality creates a wine that's bolder than your average Tasmanian white, yet still maintains the elegance and complexity that cool climate regions are renowned for. It strikes an impressive balance between power and finesse.

The 2021 vintage is described as 'near perfect' and represents the final stocks of what was an exceptional year. Tasmania's 2021 growing season produced wines with remarkable concentration and complexity, allowing this Chardonnay to develop its distinctive mineral core while achieving fuller body than typical for the region. As these are the last bottles available from this outstanding vintage, it represents a final opportunity to experience this particular expression.

The mineral line running through this Chardonnay acts as a structural backbone that elevates the fruit flavours beyond simple citrus and stone fruit notes. This minerality, typical of Tasmania's ancient soils and cool maritime climate, adds textural complexity and length to the palate. It creates a sophisticated interplay where the lemon and peach characteristics are enhanced rather than overshadowed, resulting in a more complete and age-worthy wine.

The wine's fuller body and mineral complexity make it versatile with richer dishes than typical light Tasmanian whites. Consider pairing it with roasted chicken with herbs, grilled seafood like salmon or barramundi, or creamy pasta dishes with mushrooms. The citrus and peach notes also complement Asian cuisine, particularly dishes with ginger or lemongrass, while the mineral backbone can handle aged cheeses and charcuterie.

A Five Star Halliday rating represents the pinnacle of Australian winemaking excellence, awarded only to producers who consistently demonstrate outstanding quality across their range. This recognition, combined with the 'Mofo Fave Producer' status, indicates a winery that not only meets technical standards but also creates wines with distinctive character and exceptional value. Such accolades suggest this Chardonnay comes from a producer with deep understanding of their terroir and proven winemaking expertise.
