Chardonnay with a lot going on. Flinty and floral, there is a swirl of white flowers up front that gives way to some richer, riper fruit notes and some nuttiness.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

On the palate there is fresh tropical melon and citrus fruit with cooler green apple and pear notes woven in. An abundance of fruit. There's genuine weight, too, which we don't often see in chardy at this price point – it's got real oomph which is both satisfying and delightful. The acid is long and linear, growing in intensity through the finish. This is a weekend wine at a mid-week price. Exceptional value at full retail whack, but here it is half price for you Mofos...

Frequently Asked Questions

This Yarra Valley Chardonnay delivers genuine weight and complexity that's rarely found in mid-priced wines. The full-bodied palate combines tropical richness with elegant cool-climate characteristics, creating a wine that punches well above its weight class. Its linear acidity and intense finish demonstrate the winemaking skill typically reserved for premium bottlings, making it a standout performer in the value category.

The 2019 vintage beautifully captures Yarra Valley's dual personality - warm enough for tropical fruit development yet cool enough to retain crisp green apple and pear notes. This balance reflects the region's marginal climate, where cool mornings and warm afternoons create ideal conditions for Chardonnay. The wine's linear acidity is a hallmark of cool-climate winemaking, while the fruit intensity shows the vintage's generous nature.

The wine's tropical melon and citrus notes make it perfect for seafood dishes like grilled prawns or pan-seared scallops with citrus butter. Its full body and genuine weight can handle richer preparations such as roasted chicken with herbs or creamy pasta dishes. The linear acidity cuts through fatty foods beautifully, making it an excellent match for soft cheeses or dishes with cream-based sauces.

This 2019 Chardonnay is drinking beautifully now, with its fruit flavours at their peak expression and the acidity providing excellent structure. While most Australian Chardonnays are designed for immediate enjoyment, this wine's weight and linear acidity suggest it could develop additional complexity over the next 2-3 years. The choice depends on whether you prefer the vibrant tropical fruit character now or are curious about how it might evolve with time.

The wine's genuine weight and full-bodied nature suggest techniques like lees stirring and possibly some oak contact to build texture without overwhelming the fruit. The preservation of both tropical and cool-climate fruit characters indicates careful temperature control during fermentation. The linear, growing acidity through the finish points to minimal malolactic fermentation, preserving the wine's crisp backbone while allowing the natural fruit intensity to shine through.
