This pristine Yarra chardonnay does things a little differently to most - it's about delivering maximum flavour and character, pure indulgence, pure enjoyment. Some wonderful bottle development is already showing, adding layers of complexity to what's already a generously flavoured wine.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

This one really is something of a cool-climate treasure. Meticulously picked by hand from two top-quality sites and crafted with maximum TLC. The wine sits perfectly in the middle of the chardonnay spectrum. We've caught this one at the perfect moment in the ageing process - so there are gorgeous bright notes and plenty of richer highlights too. A touch of lees stirring has resulted in a beautifully textured wine, full of white peach, grapefruit and almond meal. Seamless, slatey, smooth. If you like your chardy with character, charisma and depth, don't miss out!

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine represents the artisanal approach that defines premium Australian Chardonnay - hand-picked fruit from two carefully selected vineyard sites and meticulous winemaking with lees stirring for enhanced texture. The Yarra Valley's cool climate allows for extended ripening, developing complex flavours while maintaining natural acidity. This attention to detail creates the seamless integration of bright citrus notes with richer, creamier elements that mass-produced wines simply cannot achieve.

The description mentions this wine has been caught at the 'perfect moment in the ageing process', which for premium Chardonnay typically means 4-5 years post-vintage. At this stage, the wine has developed tertiary flavours like almond meal while retaining its vibrant fruit character. The integration between oak, fruit, and lees-derived texture has reached optimal harmony, offering both immediate drinking pleasure and the complexity that comes with proper cellaring.

The wine's creamy texture and rich palate weight make it ideal for dishes with similar body and complexity. Think roasted chicken with herbs, lobster thermidor, or creamy mushroom risotto where the wine's lees-stirred texture complements rich sauces. The bright grapefruit and lemon zest notes also cut through fatty fish like salmon or tuna, while the almond meal character pairs beautifully with dishes featuring nuts or butter-based preparations.

Lees stirring (batonnage) involves regularly mixing the dead yeast cells that settle after fermentation, which adds creamy texture and subtle savoury complexity to the wine. This technique enhances the mouthfeel without relying heavily on oak, creating that 'seamless, smooth' quality described. It also contributes to the almond meal flavours and helps integrate the wine's various elements, resulting in a more sophisticated and food-friendly Chardonnay than those made without this labour-intensive process.

A 4.2 Vivino rating across all vintages indicates consistently excellent quality, as this score represents feedback from thousands of wine drinkers globally. Ratings above 4.0 on Vivino typically indicate wines that deliver exceptional value and drinking pleasure, while the 'Mofo Fav Producer' designation suggests this winery has a track record of producing standout wines. This combination of critical acclaim and popular appeal makes it a relatively safe choice for those seeking premium Australian Chardonnay.
