Rich, concentrated, textured and gorgeously developed. Over a decade in and still firmly in the 'Drink now or Hold' category - this has age-worthiness stitched into every fibre of its being. So much on offer and yet so much left to give.

Why do we love this wine?

Langton's called the 2010 vintage in the Yarra Valley a 10/10 for Chardonnay. The resulting wines, while now scarce, were focused, intense and long lived. I say all this because this wine typifies that excellence to a tee - bright, snappy citrus sits on the back of complex stoney minerality. Above all else, it feels sophisticated and high brow. This is borrowing a little limelight from the whites of Burgundy for me, it might even be a contender to steal that focus for good. There is lanolin, cashew, and lemon flesh on offer, and the finish is tinged by subtle salinity. While there are flashes of age throughout, the wine is still marked by freshness and vibrancy. This is a brilliant wine that is equal parts academic and delicious. A must have for any dyed-in-the-wool chardy fans among us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Langton's rated the 2010 Yarra Valley vintage a perfect 10/10 for Chardonnay, recognising it as one of the region's finest years. The vintage produced wines with remarkable focus, intensity and longevity that are now increasingly scarce. Cool climate conditions during 2010 allowed for extended ripening, resulting in Chardonnays with exceptional balance between fruit concentration and natural acidity. This particular wine exemplifies that vintage excellence with its sophisticated mineral complexity and bright citrus character.

This Yarra Valley Chardonnay draws clear inspiration from Burgundy's mineral-driven style, featuring complex stoney minerality and sophisticated structure that rivals its French counterparts. The wine displays classic Burgundian characteristics like lanolin texture and subtle salinity, while maintaining Australia's signature fruit intensity. The combination of cashew nuttiness, lemon flesh, and mineral backbone creates a compelling argument that cool-climate Australian Chardonnay can match Burgundy's elegance and complexity. This represents the evolution of Australian Chardonnay from overtly oaked styles to more refined, terroir-expressive wines.

Museum releases are carefully cellared wines that have been aged beyond their typical commercial release window, allowing them to develop complex secondary and tertiary flavours. This 2010 Chardonnay has been professionally stored for over a decade, developing sophisticated characteristics like lanolin texture and nutty complexity while retaining remarkable freshness. The wine represents a snapshot of an exceptional vintage that's now scarce in the market. Museum releases offer wine lovers the opportunity to experience how premium Chardonnay evolves with proper cellaring, showcasing both aged complexity and varietal integrity.

Serve this full-bodied Chardonnay slightly warmer than typical whites, around 12-14°C, to allow its complex mineral and nutty characteristics to fully express themselves. The wine's sophisticated profile and creamy texture make it ideal for rich seafood dishes like lobster thermidor, roasted chicken with herbs, or aged hard cheeses. Its mineral backbone and subtle salinity also complement oysters beautifully, while the nutty complexity pairs excellently with dishes featuring almonds or hazelnuts. Decanting 30 minutes before serving will help integrate the flavours and showcase the wine's full potential.

Absolutely - this Chardonnay demonstrates the exceptional ageability of premium cool-climate Australian whites when properly cellared. While showing sophisticated development through lanolin texture and nutty complexity, the wine maintains remarkable freshness and vibrancy that defies its age. The bright citrus character and mineral backbone provide structural integrity that will continue supporting the wine for several more years. Quality Chardonnay from outstanding vintages like 2010 can age gracefully for 15-20 years, developing honeyed complexity while retaining essential freshness - this wine perfectly exemplifies that potential.
