Power and elegance. Buttery and rounded yet still lively and vibrant, even with 15 years under its belt. This age has created a harmonious wine; fruit, acid, oak, dairy, pastry, all rolled into one complex, yet accessible, bottle of wine.

Why do we love this wine?

To be fair, Margaret River rarely has a challenging vintage, but 2010 was nothing short of exceptional, particularly for chardonnay. Beautifully balanced, wonderfully vibrant and patiently matured, this is a really special drop. Both the bouquet and the palate are chocka-block-full of white peach, green apple, fresh butter and seamlessly interwoven French oak. A vibrant acidic structure carries throughout and leads to a lingering finish with discernible hints of creamy oak. A classy wine with a beautiful mouthfeel and exemplary fruit concentration. You won't be disappointed.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2010 vintage in Margaret River benefited from ideal climatic conditions that allowed for extended hang time and perfect ripening. This resulted in wines with exceptional balance between fruit intensity and natural acidity, creating the foundation for wines that could develop beautifully over time. The vintage produced Chardonnays with remarkable concentration while maintaining the elegance Margaret River is renowned for, which is why this wine earned 95 points from James Halliday.

The French oak in this Chardonnay has been seamlessly integrated through careful winemaking, contributing creamy textures and subtle vanilla notes without overwhelming the fruit. French oak is prized for its tight grain and elegant tannin structure, which allows for slow, controlled flavour extraction. After 14 years, the oak has mellowed and married with the wine, creating those discernible hints of creamy oak on the finish while supporting the wine's full-bodied structure.

This full-bodied style reflects both the warm Margaret River climate and winemaking techniques like extended lees contact and oak maturation. The wine's weight comes from concentrated fruit flavours, higher alcohol levels, and the creamy mouthfeel developed through malolactic fermentation. Unlike crisp, mineral-driven Chardonnays, this style emphasises rich fruit concentration and textural complexity, making it perfect for pairing with richer dishes like roasted chicken or creamy seafood.

After 14 years of bottle ageing, this Chardonnay has developed remarkable complexity while retaining its vibrant acidity. The primary fruit flavours of white peach and green apple have evolved into more nuanced secondary characters, while the oak has integrated beautifully to provide structure rather than dominate. Premium Chardonnays like this can age gracefully for 15-20 years, developing honeyed notes and deeper complexity while maintaining their essential character.

The wine's rich, buttery character and white peach flavours make it ideal for dishes with similar weight and complexity. Consider pairing with lobster thermidor, roasted pork with apple stuffing, or creamy mushroom risotto to match its full-bodied nature. The vibrant acidity cuts through rich sauces beautifully, while the oak integration complements grilled or roasted preparations. Avoid overly spicy dishes that might clash with the wine's elegant, refined character.
