Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

A little rich and a little creamy. A powerful citrus core framed by riper tropical nuance. This is the Margaret River chardy we've been hangin' out for. The wine is lead by a fleshy lemon and lemon drop confectionary citrus drive. There is genuine power and presence in that bright acid core. Some tropical notes of ripe melon and charred pineapple play on the edges, with desiccated coconut and vanilla offering further complexity. Fresh cream and star anise aromatics reveal themselves late in the piece once the wine has had a moment to open up a little. The finish persists longer than you think it will, exciting and surprising long after you've set the glass down. Drinking brilliantly now, but don't be afraid to set a few down for up to a decade - you'll be handsomely rewarded for your patience.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine showcases the distinctive Margaret River style with its powerful citrus core balanced by tropical complexity. Unlike heavily oaked Australian Chardonnays that can mask fruit character, the Gravity Black allows the region's natural acidity to shine through while still delivering richness. The combination of bright lemon-drop intensity with charred pineapple and coconut notes reflects Margaret River's unique maritime climate, which produces Chardonnays with both power and finesse.

This wine has excellent cellaring potential of up to a decade, which is impressive for a white wine. The wine's natural acidity and full-bodied structure provide the backbone needed for extended ageing. As it develops, expect the bright citrus notes to integrate further with the tropical and vanilla elements, while additional complexity from bottle age will emerge. The persistent finish indicates the wine has the concentration to reward patient collectors.

The wine's rich, creamy texture and citrus-tropical flavour profile make it ideal for seafood with cream-based sauces, roasted chicken, or pork dishes. The vanilla and coconut notes complement dishes with similar aromatics, while the bright acidity cuts through rich, buttery preparations. Consider pairing with lobster thermidor, pan-seared scallops, or even spiced Asian cuisine where the tropical fruit characters can bridge flavour gaps.

Byron & Harold has earned recognition as a Five Red Star Halliday Rated Winery and Mofo Fave Producer status, indicating consistent quality across their range. Their approach to Chardonnay demonstrates a deep understanding of Margaret River terroir, crafting wines that balance power with elegance. The Gravity Black label represents their premium tier, showcasing how skilled winemaking can extract maximum expression from exceptional vineyard sites while maintaining the region's characteristic freshness.

The Gravity Black designation suggests this is Byron & Harold's premium Chardonnay expression, likely indicating fruit selection from their best vineyard blocks. The name implies weight and intensity, which aligns with the wine's full-bodied palate and concentrated flavours. This bottling represents the gravitational pull of exceptional terroir, where the best fruit naturally settles into wines of greater complexity and ageing potential than their standard releases.
