Atlas wines are one of the most consistent producers we've ever worked with. This one is the very definition of smashable, it’s a great wine to have on hand for whenever an unexpected guest drops by, or for the 5pm weekday ritual.

Why do we love this wine?

This is delicious gris from a winery we adore. This is as fresh as they come: nashi pear, grapefruit, lemongrass, pineapple… You can imagine fresh, dew-dappled bouquets of herbs, citrusy zest finely grated over the top. Layered too, but instead of getting deeper it gets even more spritely, more exciting and aromatic. Intensity in spades but not lacking nuance. A real staple-of-the-cellar type of wine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clare Valley's cool climate and diurnal temperature variation create perfect conditions for Pinot Gris, allowing the grapes to retain natural acidity while developing complex aromatics. The region's limestone-rich soils contribute to the wine's mineral backbone, while the cool nights preserve the delicate citrus and stone fruit characters that make this Section 32 so vibrant and refreshing.

Unlike the typically neutral Italian Pinot Grigio style, this Atlas Wines expression showcases the more aromatic, textural approach that Australian producers excel at. The nashi pear and lemongrass notes demonstrate greater phenolic extraction and complexity, while maintaining the grape's inherent freshness. This style bridges the gap between crisp Italian versions and the richer Alsatian interpretations.

The wine's citrusy zest and tropical fruit notes make it exceptional with Southeast Asian cuisine, particularly Thai salads and Vietnamese spring rolls. The lemongrass character naturally complements herb-crusted fish, while the nashi pear sweetness balances spicy dishes. For local pairings, try it with fresh oysters or grilled prawns with native pepper berry.

The 2024 vintage benefited from ideal growing conditions in Clare Valley, with a cool, extended ripening period that preserved natural acidity while allowing full flavour development. This timing is crucial for Pinot Gris, as it prevents the variety from becoming flabby while maximising its aromatic potential. The result is exceptional balance between intensity and freshness that defines great Australian white wine vintages.

Serve well-chilled at 8-10°C to showcase the wine's crisp acidity and aromatic lift - the cooler temperature enhances the citrus and tropical fruit characters. While designed for immediate enjoyment, this wine can develop additional complexity over 2-3 years if stored in cool, dark conditions. The light-bodied style means it's perfect as an aperitif or with lighter dishes where you want the wine's freshness to shine.
