Atlas wines are one of the most consistent producers we've ever worked with. This one is the very definition of smashable, it’s a great wine to have on hand for whenever an unexpected guest drops by, or for the 5pm weekday ritual.

Why do we love this wine?

This is delicious gris from a winery we adore. This is as fresh as they come: nashi pear, grapefruit, lemongrass, pineapple… You can imagine fresh, dew-dappled bouquets of herbs, citrusy zest finely grated over the top. Layered too, but instead of getting deeper it gets even more spritely, more exciting and aromatic. Intensity in spades but not lacking nuance. A real staple-of-the-cellar type of wine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clare Valley's cool climate and diurnal temperature variation create perfect conditions for Pinot Gris, allowing the grapes to retain their natural acidity while developing complex aromatics. The region's limestone-rich soils contribute to the wine's mineral backbone, while the consistent cool nights preserve the delicate citrus and stone fruit characters that make this Section 32 so vibrant and food-friendly.

While Italian Pinot Grigio tends to be crisp and neutral, this Australian Pinot Gris showcases the variety's more expressive potential with layers of nashi pear, grapefruit, and lemongrass. The winemaking approach emphasises aromatics and texture rather than just refreshment, creating a wine with both intensity and nuance that rewards contemplation as much as casual sipping.

The wine's fresh herb and citrus profile makes it exceptional with Southeast Asian cuisine, particularly Thai salads and Vietnamese spring rolls. Its pineapple notes complement pork dishes beautifully, while the grapefruit acidity cuts through rich seafood like salmon or tuna. The aromatic intensity also pairs wonderfully with goat's cheese and herb-crusted chicken.

This Pinot Gris is designed to showcase youthful vibrancy and is best enjoyed within 2-3 years of vintage to capture its peak freshness and aromatic intensity. While quality Pinot Gris can develop interesting honeyed notes with age, the wine's appeal lies in its spritely, dew-fresh character that will gradually soften over time.

These ratings reflect the wine's exceptional quality-to-price ratio and standout character within its category. 'Mofo Fave' suggests this wine impressed tasters enough to earn personal recommendation status, while 'Dangerous Value' indicates it punches well above its price point. Combined with 'Killer Vintage', these ratings suggest 2024 was an outstanding year for this particular vineyard block.
