Zippy, zappy, zoomy riz! This is what we drink at home. Racy acidity and slatey minerality hold this in good stead for future drinking but this is such a wonderful wine to tuck into its youth that we doubt it'll make it past the summer.

Why do we love this wine?

This is a stunning wine - zippy, lifted, aromatic rizza from the talented hands of Adam Barton at Atlas Wines (a verified Mofo fave producer). Green apple and pithy lime juice - pretty classic for the region. Limestone minerality and bristly acidity make for a playful, energetic drinking experience. It's bright and showing pure fruit expression, coupled with some floral aromatic complexity. This is super stylish and completely classic in every way.

Wine Orbit

Wine Orbit

Exquisitely composed and elegantly expressed on the nose, showing lime cordial, crunchy apple, green tea and white floral nuances. The palate exhibits outstanding concentration and persistency, wonderfully complemented by refined texture and beautifully pitched acidity, making it taut and linear with a sustained, structured finish. At its best: 2028 to 2039. - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Frequently Asked Questions

Clare Valley's unique terroir combines warm days with cool nights, allowing Riesling grapes to develop intense aromatics while retaining crisp acidity. The region's limestone-rich soils contribute the mineral backbone evident in this Atlas Wines expression, creating that distinctive 'bristly acidity' and stone-fruit character. This geological foundation, paired with the valley's elevation and climate, produces Rieslings with remarkable longevity and the classic citrus-driven profile that made Clare Valley internationally renowned.

The 2024 vintage earned 'Killer Vintage' recognition, indicating exceptional growing conditions that produced wines with both immediate appeal and aging potential. Quality Rieslings like this typically show beautifully in their youth with bright fruit expression, then develop complex honeyed and petrol notes over 5-10 years. The limestone minerality and balanced acidity structure suggest this wine will reward both early consumption and careful cellaring.

The wine's zippy acidity and citrus profile make it exceptional with fresh seafood, particularly oysters, sashimi, or grilled fish with herbs. The green apple and lime characteristics also pair beautifully with Asian cuisine - think Thai salads, Vietnamese spring rolls, or spicy Szechuan dishes where the wine's brightness cuts through heat and richness. Light poultry dishes with citrus-based sauces or fresh goat cheese will also highlight the wine's floral complexity.

Adam Barton at Atlas Wines has built a reputation for crafting wines that perfectly express their terroir while maintaining exceptional drinkability. The 96-point Wine Orbit rating and Five Stars recognition demonstrate consistent quality across their range. Their approach focuses on pure fruit expression and regional typicity rather than heavy-handed winemaking, resulting in wines that are both technically excellent and genuinely enjoyable - exactly what discerning wine lovers seek.

Serve well-chilled at 8-10°C to showcase the aromatic lift and maintain the wine's refreshing character. The bright acidity means it can handle slightly warmer temperatures as it opens up in the glass, revealing more floral complexity. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place - while delicious now, the limestone minerality and balanced structure suggest this wine will develop beautifully over the next 3-5 years if properly cellared.
