A genuine Mofo favourite, this wine (and this producer) have become a beacon of consistency in a very unpredictable industry. Established in 2007, think of this winery as the cool, new kids on the block. What they don't have in age, they make up for in skill.

Why do we love this wine?

Welcome to one of our all-time favourite chardies. Crafted in small batches as they use only the most premium quality grapes, fruit for this particular chardonnay is sourced from the fantastic Woodside vineyard in Adelaide Hills. Balanced, bright and creamy, this lovely drop is a tropical bowl packed to the rim with melon, mango, peach and grapefruit. There’s a pillowy softness to the palate and a lively acid line that drives its long finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Adelaide Hills' cool climate and elevated vineyards create perfect conditions for Chardonnay, allowing the grapes to retain natural acidity while developing complex flavours. The region's diurnal temperature variation - warm days and cool nights - helps preserve the bright, tropical fruit characters found in this Block 9 expression. This climate produces Chardonnays with excellent balance between richness and freshness, explaining why this wine showcases such vibrant melon, mango and peach notes alongside its creamy texture.

Small batch winemaking allows Atlas Wines to handpick only the finest grapes and maintain meticulous control throughout fermentation and ageing. This approach means each barrel receives individual attention, resulting in more consistent quality and allowing the winemaker to make precise adjustments that enhance the wine's natural characteristics. The careful selection process and limited production volumes typically translate to more concentrated flavours and better expression of the vineyard's unique terroir.

The wine's tropical fruit profile and creamy texture make it excellent with seafood dishes, particularly grilled prawns, pan-seared scallops, or lobster with butter sauce. The bright acidity cuts through rich, creamy sauces while complementing the natural sweetness of shellfish. It also pairs beautifully with roasted chicken, pork tenderloin, or creamy pasta dishes where the wine's medium body won't be overwhelmed by the food's richness.

Wine Orbit's 95-point rating reflects the exceptional balance this Chardonnay achieves between richness and freshness, along with its complex flavour development. The single vineyard sourcing from Woodside vineyard provides concentrated, site-specific character that premium wine critics value highly. The wine's ability to showcase both tropical fruit intensity and elegant structure, combined with its long, acid-driven finish, demonstrates the level of winemaking skill that earns such prestigious scores.

Serve this Chardonnay chilled at 10-12°C to best showcase its tropical fruit aromatics and maintain the refreshing acid balance. The wine is drinking beautifully now but can be cellared for 3-5 years, during which the tropical fruits will evolve into more complex honeyed and nutty characters. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place away from temperature fluctuations to preserve the wine's vibrant fruit character and elegant structure.
