This comes from the Angove family's vineyards, where sandy loam soils over limestone create the kind of drainage and mineral kick that makes for superb chardonnay. The 2024 vintage was a wild ride - super low yeilds, super high concentration. Vibrant and lively but rich enough and buttery enough for the old-school chardy lovers among us.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

On the nose you’ll find ripe peach, nectarine and a bit of grilled pineapple, with vanilla and a gentle toastiness drifting in behind. It smells generous because it is. The palate leans into that generosity - white stone fruit and those tropical notes backed up by a creamy, cashew-like richness. A touch of French oak adds spice and texture, but it’s nicely judged, keeping things plush without turning too heavy or oily. There’s enough freshness running through it to stop it feeling over the top, and the finish lingers with a soft, buttery feeling staynig with you. This is crowd-pleasing chardonnay done right. Roast chicken, creamy pasta, pumpkin risotto - it’ll handle the lot. Drink it now while it’s super juicy and expressive, or give it a couple of years to become a more savoury, richer profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine strikes a perfect balance with French oak that adds spice and texture without overwhelming the fruit. Unlike heavily oaked chardonnays that can taste buttery and vanilla-dominant, Angove's approach keeps the oak 'nicely judged' - enhancing the wine's natural stone fruit and tropical flavours while maintaining freshness. The result is a textural, creamy wine that feels plush rather than heavy or oily.

While this wine is absolutely delicious now with its juicy, expressive fruit character, it has the structure to develop over a couple of years. As it ages, expect the vibrant peach and tropical notes to evolve into more savoury, richer flavours with increased complexity. Most Australian chardonnays of this style peak within 3-5 years, so enjoy it fresh or allow it to develop greater depth through short-term cellaring.

The wine's creamy texture and balanced oak make it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with dishes that have richness to match its body. The stone fruit and tropical notes complement roasted poultry beautifully, while the cashew-like richness pairs perfectly with cream-based pasta dishes. Its textural weight also makes it an excellent match for pumpkin risotto, where the wine's spice notes echo autumn flavours.

The 'Dangerous Value' rating indicates this chardonnay delivers quality that significantly exceeds its price point - making it dangerously easy to drink more than intended! Combined with the Five Red Star Halliday rating for the winery, this suggests Angove consistently produces wines that punch above their weight. This particular bottling showcases classic chardonnay characteristics with sophisticated winemaking at an accessible price.

Textural refers to the wine's mouthfeel and weight rather than just its flavours. This chardonnay achieves texture through careful oak integration and likely some lees contact, creating that described 'creamy, cashew-like richness' and 'soft, buttery feeling' on the finish. It's about how the wine feels substantial and satisfying in your mouth, with layers of flavour that build complexity beyond simple fruit-forward styles.
