This is small scale production done right - careful, considerate handling of fruit from vine to glass. Bright, snappy, fruit forward and floral with a broad, creamy texture. Sign us up.

Why do we love this wine?

Down a long, dusty road in Tasmania's north is a picturesque cellar door overlooking a small allotment of estate pinot noir and chardonnay. That's where we happened upon this producer, and where we fell in love with their wines. There is so much freshness and zip in this bubbles - floral and citrusy with a powerful burst of green apple. This is dually sophisticated and joyous. The downside? Like most the wine out of Tassie, it's super limited.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tasmania's cool climate and pristine environment create ideal conditions for producing exceptional sparkling wines. The island's latitude and maritime influence provide the perfect balance of acidity and flavour development needed for premium bubbles. This particular Blanc de Noir showcases Tasmania's ability to craft sophisticated sparkling wines that rival traditional Champagne regions, with distinctive Australian character.

Blanc de Noir translates to 'white from black' and refers to sparkling wine made from dark-skinned grapes like Pinot Noir, pressed gently to avoid colour extraction. This technique creates wines with more body and complexity than traditional white grape sparklings. The result is a fuller-bodied wine with rich brioche notes and creamy texture, while maintaining the bright citrus and green apple characteristics.

This sparkling achieves the perfect balance between technical excellence and pure drinking pleasure. The sophisticated elements come from its complex brioche and creamy notes developed through traditional winemaking methods, while the joyous character emerges from its vibrant citrus freshness and powerful green apple burst. It's a wine that impresses wine enthusiasts while remaining approachable and celebratory for any occasion.

Serve this Blanc de Noir well-chilled at 6-8°C in flute or tulip glasses to concentrate the aromatics and maintain the mousse. The full-bodied nature means it can handle richer foods like seafood, creamy cheeses, or even light poultry dishes. Its citrus and brioche complexity makes it excellent as an aperitif or paired with brunch fare like eggs Benedict or smoked salmon.

This boutique Tasmanian producer operates on a small scale with limited vineyard plantings, making their wines naturally scarce. The 'Black Market Deal' designation suggests this is an exclusive allocation that wouldn't normally be available through regular retail channels. Tasmania's wine industry is still relatively small, and many producers focus on quality over quantity, creating highly sought-after wines with cult followings among wine enthusiasts.
