Why do we love this wine?

Kreglinger have done what Kreglinger do time and time again. Pouring their heart and soul into everything they touch, their reputation for outstanding sparkling wine is truly deserved. This comes from the Kreglinger block in Piper’s Brook where the fruit is grown specifically for sparkling wine production. Everything, from grape to glass, is handled carefully and purposefully to deliver a pure expression of cool-climate sparkling wine. And what an expression it is.

Seeing up to 18m bottle ageing, you can expect the whole gamut of flavour; the aromas range from lemon curd, jasmine and honey to toasty almond depths. It’s plentiful, persistent and full on the palate where honey, pear and yeasty notes play a balancing act with the honeyed spice and fresh acidity. The finish is a thing of beauty that we cannot ignore: oh, so very creamy. What did we ever do without you, Kreglinger?!

Review

Tyson Stelzer

56/32/12% Piper's River chardonnay/pinot noir/pinot meunier from '18 base vintage with 5% reserves. Vinified in the méthode traditionnelle, aged more than 12 months on lees; 9g/L dosage. A rich and complex declaration of the Kreglinger style, this is an enticing synergy of taut citrus and the generosity of peach and strawberry, confidently underlined by the toasty, spicy, honeyed complexity of maturity. It's at once full and rich, yet focused and structured. Concluding with good persistence and the inimitable tension of Piper's River acidity, it delivers a lot for its price.
